Have you thought about putting a lower, larger front rack (aka a mini cargo bike), on that design? The long forks look like they would handle it well, and it would make for a cool tiny cargo bike.

Looks like you have to take some care unfolding the rear triangle, but if that's the price for a simple belt drive with no tensioner, then that's ok with me. What ratio do you have on the single speed?
@theurbanbike16463 ай бұрын
Front 60T and rear 19T
@bungee283 ай бұрын
Pretty gnarly to see the belt hanging hang loose like that (without a tensioner), but you can't beat gates carbon belt drive for maintenance-free performance! My 14 year old Strida still rides as smoothly as the day I bought it, thanks to the belt drive. Thanks for sharing.
@theurbanbike16463 ай бұрын
I figured since belt is grease free and it’s ok to touch it so just do away with tensioners making the bike simple
@bungee283 ай бұрын
@theurbanbike1646 you typically wouldn't fold the belt, but a custom tensioner should work too i0.wp.com/www.kinetics-online.co.uk/test/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/53155233783_3772776153_o-scaled.jpg?fit=3627.75%2C3102.75

I did not know about replacing the chain with a belt system, Brompton does not have it as an option. I appreciate you explaining (if you can do so) how you achieved it and giving a list of components so that I can do the same. I very much appreciate your response.
@arzolt47653 ай бұрын
most belts can't be split like a chain, however the belt has to pass through the rear triangle. Because of that belts require special "split" frame, where you can open that rear triangle to pass the belt. On steel frame it may be possible to bodge something on an existing frame. On Brompton i guess they may have just changed the rear triangle with a custom one.

a lot of innovations here, this is high art, hope u can apply similar to minivelo w/ pinion - also adjustable bar ends that can swing & lock for upright or sport
@SingaporeUntold5 ай бұрын
the ride would be insanely harsh. anyone can buy the airless tires but useless people don't use them because they are so harsh and slow. I think a suspension seat pole or seat or both would be necessary. otherwise it's more practical to use a more puncture proof tire like the marathon or continental urban and just pump it up. the belt is unique but no tensioner is kind of hmm half bake idea. I suppose it must not function correctly. you should look into external gear Brompton mods to see what they do. for example birdy and the modded Brompton could use an arm at the front chainring to keep tension on the "chain" or belt in this instance. unless the user is just not going to fold it unless in an emergency to which I suggest a kick stand is mandatory so the bike can stand on it's own while unfolded. I do commend on the attempt to try this as this could kick Brompton in the butt to actually innovate their product at all. they are kind of slow on any kind of innovation. I know many people been asking for belt driven and even off road versions of bromptons.

It’s all depending on individual preference. There will always be pro and con of different use of products and design. We at The Urban Bike prefers to simplify the bikes and create ways to reduce maintenance, breakdowns, and cleaning, focusing on everyday all purpose city use. Me myself on the other hand favours single speed and old fashion bicycle like Dutch bikes. I finds belt system and airless tyres bring me much convenience everywhere i travel with my bikes.
