Had a few questions about this, trying to maximize efficiency. Sorry if I missed any of this in the video. Should you always take 6 contracts? Like if the timer just reset, and there's only 3 decent ones available, and there's 3 that are on the "avoid" list, would you just grab the good 3, do those, and then come back to board after? Or would you still grab one of the avoid ones to keep 4 going? Or would you sit there the 2 minutes and wait for reset to pick up better ones? Also, thank you so much for this informative vid!!!!
@shamonna577226 күн бұрын
@parkersitkowski9027 I would always take 6 to begin with, especially as you get higher level. The pool gets more and more diluted, and doubling up will always be really efficient. I wouldn't sit around at the board for even 30 seconds just run to a close stall and buy some extra and come back quick etc

"It'll take me 6 months to reach that point" But that's exactly how much time you have to complete the current episodes. The game doesn't require anyone to play that much to have meaningful progression. It simply allows people to also keep grinding any profession as far as they want. It takes like 80-90 hours to beat the main story + some side quests. Any kind of player can do that in 6 months.

I think my original comment may have been miscommunicated and people got the opposite impression of what I was trying to say, because other people replied to me in a similar way. I was trying to say that I think it's actually a GREAT thing that Brighter Shores has lots of content for casual players. I'm looking forward to making it my "main game" that I play daily (or as much as possible) going forward. I was mostly trying to say that we should ignore the opinions of people playing 6 - 8 hours a day who are saying it doesn't have enough content yet haha.
@xaero9627 күн бұрын
You are right. People thinking there should be some kind of "end game" at level 500 are a bit wild. The actual end game is going to be reached through new episodes. Deep grinding will only be required for cool optional stuff (extra hard difficulty of a boss or something). People coming in with the mindset of trying to max their acc are not looking at it right. That's where I think this idea that's there's "not enough content" is coming from. They're confused that they can do everything unique in about 100-200 hours, which is absolutely normal for a normal game.
@orangecrix628 күн бұрын
Offline gains beyond 200 seem the biggest of them all. There was a post on the subreddit with 3.3mil for 12h of afk. Also, as some others said, 24 hours is not enough. Personally, I don't want 50 silver of junk in my inventory for afking some trash mob or a crafting skill--i'd rather take more time.

I recently got back into WoW after a 10-year hiatus and I totally understand that guy’s frustration. It feels like the content cadence is tuned more towards keeping NEET players engaged, even to the detriment of QA (at least from my experiences with WoW and ESO). There are SO many things to do with our lives, SO many games to play, and with MMOs (and other live service games) their primary goal has shifted towards maximizing how much of your time is spent playing their game and nothing else, in order to drive MTX & cash shop sales. Brighter Shores definitely has that Uber-grindy feel to it, but at least it hasn’t turned to the Dark Side - and given Andrew’s history and feelings towards what happened to RS, I have some hope he will maintain the integrity of his creation and keep it mtx-free… as long as he can keep the greed monster at bay, anyway.
@ricodogface713929 күн бұрын
I agree that people who only have a couple hours to play everyday probably shouldn't pay this game. But I totally disagree that games shouldn't be designed like this. The slow as hell forever progression is exactly what I (and many others) are here for. I admit the percentage of gamers that enjoy this sort of thing is low but a small mmo with a staff of 10 or so sounds about right.

You are right! It is pretty clear to me that Gower has designed the game with both types of players in mind: those who can play for hours and hours, and those who don't have much time to play every day. It just happens to cater fantastically to the casual gamer :)
@JesusGreenBL29 күн бұрын
Not to mention knowledge points as well, and the episode system. The knowledge point system means not only can you spend any limited time you have on skills you actually enjoy doing and still level up the skills you don't - but it also means people who get very limited time to play the game _actively_ can still get a few levels. Like if you only have an hour to spare at your desk most days, you can still use that time for Netflix or whatever you'd normally do with that limited hour, while doing something semi-AFK on the side like raids, but invest the KP into something that'd normally require more focused attention. Then on top of that, the episode system means that for as far behind as you might get in any given episode, when you don't have much time to play compared to others - if you're there in the first week of the new episode's release, you'll still get to be on even footing with all those people that were so far ahead of you in all the previous episodes. I think Brighter Shores feels like more of a grind and a time investment right now than it actually is because of the fact that since it's so new it's currently a race to the top. So everyone has that feeling of "every hour I don't play is an hour my total level gets behind everyone else". Relax, if you're not over 1K total already, you already missed the boat on being first, play at your own pace, future episodes are probably only going to release every several months - if that, so you're going to have tons of time to finish the content in each of them.

You can argue that the release of a new expansion or periodic episode/league is more beneficial for players who can't engage in content for longer periods of time. It gives them a chance to jump in and start right away on equal terms. Even if they'll fall off probably a week or two into the game. Your skills may not reset on osrs/bs but it'll also takes hundreds to possibly thousands of hours to level them up anyway so does it really matter to a casual ? I feel like the only redeeming factor for casual players on Brighter shores is the episode system which will allow players to join in at later parts of the game without a need to catchup, but if that remains true in the future who knows. I can easily see them adding quests or unlocks that tie in to previous unlocks to allow players to not feel like the game is resetting each episode. This isn't a bash towards the game as I personally enjoy it (600 total) but I'd not class BS as a casual players game neither would I call any mmorpg on the market besides WoW retail or FFXIV (if you story skip) at endgame on either of those, you could basically queue your shit, do some quests and call it a day. ( don't see the point though) I'd ike to add without sounding like an ass. If you have 2 hours to play a game each day the entire mmo genre probably isn't the best pick. You can easily get more out of that time on a single player game, FPS, moba, arpg etc. You can learn most of the mechanics and actually improve on those games which has carry over to many other games of similar genre. Your experience on an mmo aside from basic mechanics is usually isolated to that game. mmorpgs these days have so many systems, bosses, guides that half the time you'll spend on them will be learning what you're supposed to be doing or how to do it and when the next big game hits all that time spent would have gone to waste.
@coryp686829 күн бұрын
I think a major strength that brighter shores will have in tandem with osrs is long-term range, especially once it's seen some development. Thousands of hours between you and perfecting your account means plenty of goals to set for your own enjoyment and continued playability. I would rather enjoy the intrinsic reward of checkpoints across long-term progression than beat a game with less than 100 hours and a debit card. I'm not the person that has 40-50 games in my steam library; I tend to settle on one for long periods of time. Things like osrs and ffxiv. Hundreds of days played to "complete" your account? For me that's not a drawback, it's a big plus. A long road ahead, to me, means constantly having something to look forward to for many months or more. Plus, I would always jump at the opportunity to support the Gower bros, as they are responsible for crafting the masterpiece that I enjoyed for over 20 years. Some people just love grindy games. Osrs, OG maplestory, dumb shit like that has always been my jam. ❤

This is going to be a great game I have no doubt. But it is obvious that this is just the foundation. All there is at this stage is skilling and that’s fine. There will be bossing there will be mini games there will be a collection log etc. it’s all coming. And I get what you mean that the stats you grind now will matter in the future. Just at this stage when we don’t know what that future looks like, for many players they don’t feel that incentive to grind 100s etc. I’m enjoying the vids. Keep em coming.

As a dark and darker player and with any other extraction game the counter to neets is that you can just RWT like 1$ for 10 hours worth of gear progression in a lot of cases lol even pvp on OSRS could be viewed this way. I do enjoy the passive skilling balance in brighter shores for casual players. Idk of any other MMOs that do something like this as well.
@x0schulzy0xАй бұрын
The thing is, if you hop on an osrs ironman rn some people are A LOT hours in and not even close to finishing mid-game. OSRS has had a long time to cook and you should probably look closer to the thousands for those ironman references. They definitely need to fix the xp scaling between 20-50 at least, but if you're an osrs fan the hours per "stage" of the game shouldn't be discouraging. It's just the lack of content at the moment. They need to add a lot of low level quests, more mid-level (50s-100s), some high level (150-250s), and a handful of super late game quests ASAP. Personally, I would prefer they continue focusing on QoL and such at the moment. The recent poll he did is probably biased because the only people that took it understand what the future will hold. I really worry about retention if they don't flesh out long-term goals for players or at least provide a roadmap for content. Not even dates, just # episodes, skills, quests, bosses, pvp, etc. It's similar to their horrendous advertising. Except this time people have tried it and already made up their mind.

"Only 200 hours for early game." Dude MMO players are wild. I only have a handful of games on steam ive played for over 200 hours. I can "only" play for 2 or 3 hours a day so it'll likely take me 5 months to reach that point. I dont think we should be designing games around NEETs who can play for 10 hours a day for weeks on end. Youll never satisfy or make enough content for that type of person. And they cant be the majority of a game's community just based on the fact people have jobs or school

Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment. I truly appreciate it and it had me reflect and rewatch my video and realize I missed giving Brighter Shores some credit it deserves. I do believe Brighter Shores is a game that might be the perfect game for anyone who enjoys the gameplay/progression of Runescape but doesn't have a ton of time to play on a daily basis because of their AFK skilling system. What are you in a rush for? If you like the game, 5 months shouldn't even be a worry for you. It seems to me like you just don't like the game and that's okay. No need to resort to talking down on a game's design because its "designed for NEETs". Patience is a virtue, if you don't have it you are just as bad as these so called NEETs playing the game that will never be satisfied with the content. The enjoyment is in the journey and it seems to me like you don't enjoy that journey and/or just want to skip to the end. If you actually enjoy the game, the thought of being able to spend 5 months playing and not be close to finished with all the content should be an exciting thought for you. Either that or you are the type of person to constantly compare your progression to somebody else's.... comparison is the thief of joy, this game is effectively single player, other peoples progression does not and should not be affecting your enjoyment of the game.

wouldnt even say its true. there is nothing meaningful to do in the game anymore after you beat the quests. there is no endgame or anything.
