I use Saphir products including Renomat to strip away the original polish, Burgundy Dye, Burgundy Shoe Cream and a combination of Burgundy and Black Waxes :-)

Am I correct in assuming that Loake are now using compressed cardboard for the heel stacks in their shoes ?

I believe Ian it is 'Leather Board', which is made up of offcuts of leather, ground to a fine dust and mixed with a solution. This is then rolled into sheets, and cut in the same way that leather soles and heels are. I am actually planning a factory visit sometime early in the New Year, so I will be sure to check and confirm then :-) In the meantime.....don't believe all you might hear or see, from someone with an axe to grind, for having their account with Loake closed ;-)

Do they hand stitch the welts back on, so as not to miss the pre existing holes in the uppers. My understanding is that when the welt is restitched on the machine again, the machines needle may miss the existing holes in the shoe's upper therefore risking weakning the uppers over time?

I can't be certain, but it is most likely the Welting Machine is preset stitch length, and once the shoe is aligned to hit the first pre-made hole, the rest should follow fairly even. I get what you say though. I am sure great care is always taken to not compromise the upper when re-welting.

Was in a F’&F stockist today and asked to try on a pair of Regina could not get my foot past the curve tried on a larger size and used a shoe horn alas no luck shop assistant couldn’t understand (along with myself) how I couldn’t get my foot inside the boots, most embarrassing as I was afraid to damage the boots and didn’t want to force them on , glad I didn’t order online 🤔☹️

We are all different and with different opinions Martin. Nothing wrong with that, but I am always in favour of various Rubber Sole options. Value for money too, they can't be beaten on something that might get very regular wear.

Fully agree with the advice on sizing. I bought these very shoes from yourselves in light oak 2 years ago and i found the 8 to be a perfect fit (im usually a 9) They are superb quality and probably the most comfortable shoes that i own. Still like new although i wear them all the time. Thanks again.

Everything for a reason Sir. Whilst Loake and Barker represent incredible value for money, some of their products are made wholly overseas, and some part made overseas. Loake still have a clicking and closing room, so their premium collection is made in England still.......I am told. Tricker's and C&J, both brands we work with are kind of next level in terms of quality. This though probably in the material quality mostly, to include the leather Uppers, Linings, Footbeds etc. Tricker's and C&J are made start to finish in England and again, if well cared for and maintained, could be 'shoes for life', so again represent excellent value for money if you think long term. All of the brands we work with, might be considered much more of an investment than a one off quick purchase.
