You think tipping for food is bad, get this. I recently had my hvac system serviced. Upon getting ready to pay, they had the audacity to include a tip window as part of your payment. I was like, I'm already paying over $100 or more for ac service and now you are asking for a tip? Tipping culture is really out of hand when services like that start including it.

I'm in the same boat boat as her. If you ask for a tip upfront you get 0. Everytime I leave a really nice tip I get screwed. I get nothing but bad service and problems and it cost me extra.

The Dashers and Uber Eats drivers are the same way. They expect a tip when they sling your food around, smoke around your food, take detours to get their own tasks done and your food arrives late etc. I don't tip for bad service.

I stopped with the apps for the most part. After service fees and tips it's way expensive and food usually arrives 🥶 🧊 ☃️ cold. One time I drove around the neighborhood to get my food back from the person wrongly delivered food to. They took a picture of tge door they left my food at 😞

Here in Australia tipping is not common practice. When I order on DoorDash my driver just does his job because...that's his job. I've tipped a couple people on DoorDash (Mainly if I recognize your name twice) and once a lady messaged me saying thank you for the tip. How many times you think that happens in America? Doubt many. Americans feel entitled to tips before even doing anything. So absurd to me. People who make the argument that I can afford to eat out/order food means I can afford to tip are beyond delusional. How do they know I didn't save pennies for the last year to treat my children to their favorite food? A tip, quite literally, is a reward for doing a good job. How can you expect a tip if you haven't done a job, let alone a good one?

You make great points. Especially like you said, families really do save up for special occasions to go out to dinner and now they must save up for the tip too. Most people don't think about that. Thanks for making me think about tipping in a more inclusive way.

A tip is for service not for a product. Tips were originally for waitstaff who were paid significantly less wages than kitchen staff but made more than kitchen staff because of tips. A tip has very little to do with the food. That is paid for good or bad. A tip is supposed to be only about serving

There has been times in the past when I haven’t left a tip (and I only tip for sit down dinner service). If I get bad service or the waitress flirts with my date. Hell no tip. When I worked in a supper club in the 1980s A standard tip was 15% not 20%.

I stopped giving anything more than a minimum tip with food delivery services. They always leave it at the wrong house. I'm disabled and live on a fairly busy street. By the time I get to the neighbors, my food has walked away. What I do is put detailed directions in the notes that starts with "DISABLED PLEASE READ" and then put that an extra tip will be given if they follow the directions. If they don't, I'll call them and tell them that since they didn't bother to read the notes, they lost out. Hopefully, teaching them a lesson on the process. I know that the first line of the notes shows up on their driver screen, so there's no excuse.

As far as tipping in advance goes, nope. I've worked in the service industry as a bartender a lot in my life, which makes me fully understand the importance of earning your tips. Just bc we're a tipping culture here, unlike most countries outside the US, doesn't mean it's a given. Tipping is NOT mandatory, in most cases, & is merely an INCENTIVE to best the best you can be & to make your customers want to come back. I want to see the results of their integrity, or lack of, when it comes to the quality of what I'm paying for FIRST! Just like we ALWAYS did when it comes to tipping culture... pre-2020. If the employee has the audacity to think I'm stupid enough to pay them a tip for services I have not received, I have one question for them to hopefully put it all into the correct perspective for them... 🤔"Did your employer pay you in advance in order for you to come into work today?"🤨 What do you think their answer will be? I'm betting it's a, "No". People just want to get something for very little effort so pre-tipping sets up the perfect environment for laziness. Especially in my state where now the state has a work requirement for people between the ages of 18 & 60 to get any benefits w/out actively applying for a jobs. The goal is getting able-bodied people who don't want to work, aka getting something for doing nothing bc why work when the taxpayers are supporting you, back to work & off the dole. Prove yourself then we'll talk tip. Also a reminder... Trump will not tax tips!! And he means it. The other candidate only stole his idea & is now campaigning on it as well. When her vote was the vote needed to pass the bill that taxed the tips in the 1st place!🤦🏼‍♀️ Flip-floppin heels up harris🙄 ❤️🇺🇸TRUMP✊🏼2024🇺🇸❤️

I was told that TIPS stood for “to insure proper service”. I feel that this tipping thing has gone way too far. I even have had service men (locksmith) come to my home, fix a lock, charge me $115.00 and then actually ASKED me for a tip! I refused. It’s not right, this tipping thing.

Food delivery drivers also get tipped in advance. They don't always deliver to the right address, dump food in the wrong location, and there is no way to reduce the tip after a driver has spit in your food.

Tipping in advance??? are you kidding me?? I'm of the opinion that ALL tipping should be banned, everyone and their brother now wants a tip, and not a little tip but starting at 18%. Tipping used to be to ensure prompt service and you were not required to pay it, now it is expected and extorted. Those of you who say, well I if I sit down at a nice restaurant I will leave a good tip are at the root of this problem, this is where it goes when you play that game, its a very slippery slope and what has lead us here today, stop ALL tipping, make employers pay their wages.

If you get crappy service, with or without a tip, then *review, review, review.* Let it be known that you got what you got (cold bacon, slapped-on butter), and didn't what you didn't (no napkins, no utensils). I was never one to eat takeout except when I would go to the same choinese food place for lunch at work, but nowaways?, nothing. No McD's, no Starbux, no nuttin'. I make better food at home.

You don't have to make excuses for not tipping in advance! A tip should be based on the quality of the service and the meal. If they did a really nice job for you, then more of a tip. It's probably better to explain though, that you tip after the experience, not before - so they don't target you for some obnoxiousness.

I don’t eat out out order delivery at all anymore. It’s been more than a couple years and I don’t think I’ll ever do it again. I’ve become a pretty good cook and actually enjoy cooking at home. Stop giving in to the tips and inflated prices, once their business falls off the prices will come down. I’m not paying more for the food and giving more for tips when the food and the service is just as bad as it’s always been.

We need to get back to the original design of tipping. It's ridiculous the expectations that are placed on customers to pay someone else's employees. It's not my responsibility to pay their wages so that the employer can have more in his/her wallet. That is not the way tipping was intended to be! All these elevated prices and then they want to squeeze more out of me - and I have to leave feeling guilty if I don't tip. Tip FOR WHAT? What did they do that was extra ordinary? NOTHING. So keep your tips in your pocket and let the employer figure it out! Everywhere and Everybody wants a tip. NO!
