To be fair, he did all this not only because of the guilt, but because he knew he couldn't trust Burr to not tell people about the scandal even though Hamilton told him not to. Burr responded by saying, "Rumors only grow and we both know what we know.", which were terms just shy of saying, "Man, what a good reputation you have. It'd be a shame if *someone* ruined that by saying that you *allegedly* cheated on your wife with someone else's and then got extorted by that someone else's Husband." So this is partially on Burr but also on Hamilton for cheating on his wife and getting extorted for it in the first place.

Several kids- in real life. The musical only really talks about Philip, but if I remember he had I think 5 kids. And he did kind of deserve this. He shot himself in the foot via infidelity, and then desperate to prove he wasn’t abusing his position as Secretary of the Treasury, he exposed everything, humiliating himself, his wife, and his children, when in all honesty, it probably could have remained a secret, although his political career likely still would have been permanently damaged.
