you can see the strength in him... even how he moved the pieces with full energy hitting the board. he was not an ordinary man for sure.

It's so sad that he freaked out later over playing conditions and thereby didn't retain the world title for years as he really should have done. But Kasparov said that in the period leading up to his world title no player had ever dominated - nor has since - the top class opposition as dramatically as Fisher.
@horstreuter63048 ай бұрын
He freaked out about playing conditions far before becoming world champion, during the match with Spassky and after it. He seemed to be very moody if not mad. Fischer should have limitited his demands, so he could play more world championships. He made a list with over 100 demands for the world chess organization, which is very demanding. Which sportsman can demand the rules and conditions of his sport get totall changed to his will? Maybe Fischer was unwilling to risk loosing hic worldchampion-status in a match and so overplayed his demands intentionally?

He sounds like a watered down Christopher Walken and looks like Nicolas Cage. When he was on the roll they compare his shutout wins to pitching 19 perfect games in a row.

When are id}ots like that one guest going to realize that women just don't like to do certain things. Chess is one of them. It's impossible for chess to be "sexist". You're either good at it or you're not. You can't keep a woman from being a grand master. When she shows up to play, there's no way to keep her from winning if she's better.

interesting fact. take IQ. Cavett is among the top iq second only to Conan Obrien. however when fisher is speaking to Cavett it is roughly equivalent to a common person talking to someone that would be borderline institutionalized.

Dick Cavette, such a genius at interviews. Sandy giggling and her flirting w/ Bobby. She wanted to point out that he is great at chess, but also very charming, handsome, and intelligent. Cavette showcased his talent, intensity and his wit. Sandy took it up a notch, the appeal an Alpha Male has on a woman.

I watched Pawn Sacrifice Tobey Maguire was not right for that role. Bobby Fischer was very charming I wonder why had so much trouble being in a loving relationship. He seems very lonely.

Fischer's true character doesn't really come out here. You can see it's just below the surface though. He was a mother of all fruitcakes. Once he stopped playing chess, he stopped living.

Tom Hardy, like Charlton Heston, Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, Spencer Tracy and Frederick March, in spite of how great or awful a film may be, these actors give great performances in spite of the script. Sometimes they have no choice, like us, work is work, etc. So many more to list, but the point is made. A huge Heston fan, 'Ben Hur', a masterpiece, a man who has been beaten down and corruption engulfs him and his family. God punishing him. It took a woman's love, her father's hatred eating him alive and her honesty in how he hates now. You must have love in yourself. Hatred may have fueled his purpose, but love is so much more powerful.

My takeaways: he's disarmingly candid, surprisingly attractive, incredibly aggressive in his speech, word choice, and body language (man, the way he slams those pieces around! And the man-splay) and completely off-putting to the woman, despite being handsome. I dont know if he's the greatest ever, but he has to be the most interesting. He's obviously got a huge ego, but he has the goods to back it up, and he genuinely can laugh at himself. Nothing here to tell of the catastrophe to come. All the stuff about the Russians was true. He had to be arrogant to accomplish what he did. Sad. The big what if.

When he is playing that chessboard he is confidence on steroids. Alpha male. So great to watch. Young women today would want to brow beat him. He even admits he'd like to see women play, praises 2 of them for being in the profession. He is not threatened or intimidated by Cavette. This is by far one of the most enjoyable interviews.

I just can't get enough of Bobby Fischer. What an amazing brilliant guy. What a weird crazy life did he have. Inspite of his behaviour, i have the impression he was a nice guy basicly. Also misunderstood, socially awkward and i'm sure he had a traumatized character. To me the greatest chess player ever. RIP Bobby.
