I saw a number of Shakespeare 70 productions, both at the Black Box Theater and at the Open Air Theater in Washington Crossing Park. All were very entertaining.

I, with the Bucks County Choral Society, have performed both the Brahms Requiem and the Faure Requiem just this passed year. I learned to sing at TCNJ 1983-1989.

This was a great way to express the school's feelings toward these racial injustices. The music and singing were on point.

Ya’ll made a video about the problem of systemic racism with zero participation from African American faculty. Very telling. Whole school doesn’t have a single African American full professor. Just two black faculty and one wasn’t even hired by that school. That doesn’t happen by accident. And please miss me with that ‘we realize we have work to do’ mess. This is what performative activism looks like. Do better! We see ya’ll.

As the Dean of the school, I think it is important for me to refute the idea that the video was made with zero participation from African American faculty. The faculty members being referenced in this post did participate in a collaborative, internal process that led to the making of the video; but, there are very personal and private reasons why they chose not to appear in the video itself. Out of respect for their privacy, that is the only response I will offer on that issue. It is unwise, I think, and a poor use of time, to attempt a public conversation that is initiated by a post premised on some significant inaccuracies. However, I am going to assume that the author of this post is genuinely interested in the well being of the faculty and students in the school, and so I invite the author to engage with me in a more substantive conversation to get a more accurate picture of our work around diversity and inclusion in the school. I am incredibly proud to work with each and every one of my faculty and staff colleagues here in the school every day - many of whom participated in the video - and I am proud of the work they do with our students. Their participation was not "performative" if by the use of that word the intended synonym is superficial. As a black man, I am committed to continuing to do the hard work with my colleagues of building an excellent, diverse and inclusive school, and, as I indicated in the video, details of this ongoing work will be made public over the next few weeks. As a fellow educator, I welcome the author's insights and expertise as we engage in working towards these changes. Perhaps, just perhaps, that is a much better use of our time. -Maurice Hall, Ph.D., Dean, School of the Arts and Communication and Professor of Communication

TCNJ School of the Arts and Communication You are really missing my point here. Holding up signs with hashtags is a poor use of time on a campus struggling with systemic racism. You really don’t think your black faculty are smart enough to know that? I would have had some profoundly personal reasons not to participate too. I am not the only black faculty member dismayed by the video. But on a campus where black professors don’t become full, who is going to speak up? I am not surprised that you are proud of your faculty. That is the whole point of such a video-to pat backs and feel good on the very day George Floyd was put ground. And lord have mercy, ya’ll can’t even see what’s wrong with that. As for private conversations about racism, I am done with that. Constructive community work requires public honesty, transparency, and willingness to consider how nice people participate in and are complicit with racism. I don’t see that willingness here. Cassandra love to talk. 2013060555. Sounds like you have anger to release. Just so you understand, I’m offended that you assume I’m a racist. I see the human race. .
