He is such a save and very techincal singers. U will know it easly buy seeing how he intentonally modified the vowels once he entered G#4. The only of very very view tenor in pop music who can belt Bb4-B4 with opened optimum sound. Much higher tessitura than average tenor too. That chesty *overdrive* C#5 explained it. Overall definetly one of the best male vocalist in 22 century.

Can you do a vocal range video for Scott? His range has expanded so much recently and it would be interesting to see
@deangelo_rsaАй бұрын
Mitch Grassi is not a tenor 😭💔 this is unfair... he is a whole male soprano 😂 that B4 is literally in his mid-range (possibly even in his lower middle) whereas for tenors its at the top of their chest range
@toara7 күн бұрын
Mitch is a tenor. What are you on about?
@deangelo_rsa7 күн бұрын
@toara Mitch is literally a male soprano, he doesn't not sing Tenor range, he's usually the alto in Pentatonix songs. Go look at his vocal range and find out where his tessitura sits.
@deangelo_rsa7 күн бұрын
@toara His voice is feminine sounding in high registers, being considered by many people as a countertenor. Scott is the closest you got to a Countertenor in the group. Mitch's modal voice or chest voice does not sit between C3 and C5 which is a tenors typical voice. It sits well between D3 and D5.
@deangelo_rsa7 күн бұрын
@toara if I am wrong then I apologize but, from his tone? He sounds like he has the same tessitura as Jordan Smith, Bruno De Sa, and Maayan Licht (Mezzo-soprano range/Alto)
@toara7 күн бұрын
@@deangelo_rsa He usually sings in the alto range and sometimes dip into mezzo and soprano because his head voice/falsetto is very well developed, allowing him to use the heady mix which is very much possible if you are a tenor (Listen to Caleb Hyles, he's some form of full lyric or dramatic tenor and has a very high mix similar to Mitch). D3 - D5 is actually the range for a light lyric tenor which seems to be his voice type (check out the wikipedia article on the tenor voice), many people think he's a leggero but his highest even mix is an E5 and not your typical leggero F5 (or even higher)

Great video. I don't know anything about music so I can't speak to the accuracy of the vocal range but one thing I love about Mitch's singing style is his enunciation. Mitch closes his consonants and even when singing high, you can hear every word finished. I appreciate that and it is one of the reasons that while I like Scott's voice, I don't care for his slurring of words. I know it works for some songs but I prefer someone who can be understood. Mitch does it with ease.

As you are one of the few people doing vocal range videos, especially for Pentatonix, I've got some questions for you: 1. Do you think they will still focus on Christmas music in the next few years? Do you think that's a good or bad thing? For me, it's been a bit tiring having them focus on it so much lately, but I understand it's because of their label. 2. What do you think of Pentatonix use instruments more regularly, like in The Masked Singer arrangements of theirs? 3. Do you think it'd be possible to use AI in its current ability to "isolate" their vocals in the Christmas Around the World album to analyze their voices/notewatch? 4. On Pure Imagination/Christmas Time Is Here, during Kirstin solo at 1:31 in the song, there have some high "oohs", which I can't identify if they're Mitch's or Kevin's. Any idea? 5. Do you plan on doing a vocal range video for Citizen Queen's CLIQUE EP? I know you did vocal range videos for Kaedi, Nina and Hannah in the past, and I was wondering if it's something you'd be interested in expanding. Not sure if the explicit language they use in most of their songs would be suitable for here, but that's on you. 6. What's your favorite Pentatonix song that has never been performed live? 7. Which other artists/acapella groups do you like? I think that's all the questions for now. I really like your videos! Been here for no one knows how long, probably over 3 years, decided to comment something for once lol
@pb25609 ай бұрын
well, thank you so much for all your questions!! and for sticking around for so long :) 1. definitely yes, christmas has been a huge part of their identity since TCTM and after the christmas tours i am fully aware they'll keep it a yearly tradition in the foreseeable future. i'd love if they committed as hard for originals, but oh well, christmas makes them huge money i guess. 2. i've questioned the introduction of instruments (beside kevin's cello ofc) for a while now. if that's where they want to go however, i will follow. i think it's fair if they want to experiment with different sounds and instrumentations, after years of using only their voices and bodies. my problem is mainly on the fact that it's become extremely hard to notewatch their recent albums and instrumentation definitely doesn't make it easier, but that's hardly a real argument against a creative decision. tl;dr not my favorite thing, but i like their music regardless. 3. i've been extremely lukewarm on the recent surge of AI (mostly for artistic reasons). but honestly, it is possible to isolate vocals using software that has been available for years: my main problem there is that it requires a lot of patience and time. and since i do this stuff as a hobby and i have other obligations in life, i preferred to skip that album altogether. i could still come back to it and do that video if i have the time it requires of me to dissect it, but all my work in this channel comes down to the pockets of free time i get. so, it's likely, but not for now lol. 4. i see the confusion (i myself thought the high note in KFAR was mitch's before kevin confirmed it was himself), but i can distinctly hear mitch's tone at 1:35 in the song. and it seems that's also the part mitch sings in the live performances of that song. 5. i'm all clocked out on CQ content. their music is not my cup of tea and if ptx are toying sometimes with instruments, then they've gone the full contemporary pop route. they seem to have fun with it so i'm happy for them, but remain uninterested. and since i don't monetize this channel the explicit language is the least of my concerns lol. 6. that's a really good question! "you're out" and "anchor" were instant favorites when i listened to them, so either of those could be... i also loved "exit signs" which they've never performed. "cologne" is also top 3 in my ranking of ptx covers, and "it came upon a midnight clear" for the christmas songs. but nowadays "performed live" could mean anything when it comes to ptx lol. 7. back in 2020 i fell in love with chanticleer, with "someone new" becoming one of my favorite albums ever period. that's part of the reason why i made a vocal range video for casey breves (and him also having a strikingly beautiful voice). and this is one of their best songs ever: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5eXkKRnocSdh6c i'm a big a capella/choir fan in general, tbh.

I am enjoying the maturity and complexity of the new songs on the album. It's interesting to listen to their first cover of O Holy Night (from 2014 I think?) and compare it to this one. this video must've took some definite replaying of the tracks to make lol even with all my years of analyzing them, their newer originals can be so dense and hard to discern, nice job! my thoughts: (i only really keep up with the trio's vocals so) (sorry if this is long lol) -scott is so fckng versatile and it never ceases to amaze me, and being a baritone doing it at that! so glad he undertook a bass part again, 4:09 that F♯2 was effortless, people forget how expansive his lows are (did you hear the B1 he did in one of his looping instagram videos ? sooo expansive). the sustained G4 at 4:58 was delicious and the B4s with rasp as well, i'm wondering when they recorded this album bc a lot of his vocals on his EP were very raspy but a lot of notes here were pretty clean (so i'm guessing an artistic choice!). those trills and runs in high falsetto are always to die for lol he has such a sexy and heroic voice. truly one of thre best males in pop. -i wish mitch delved into his lower register in ptx more but he really has been utilizing it (a lot more than i expected and at the expense of his vocal acrobatics, probably focused on tonality/sonic artistry in those songs versus showing off) in his messer track's so i'm not too fussed, his mix is lovely as always (i mean cmon G4 at 7:08 and the B4 at 8:18 are gorgeous) and ofc that famed upper register is flexible, i do wonder if he's really incapable of vocalizing properly in the 6th octave, but judging from his messer tracks his voice isn't really astronomically high set as ppl may think, he's a master at tone variation and has a really malleable voice. -kirstin my queeeen, i also wish she went lower in ptx tracks on average but in her case it is probably merely just bc of how they arrange (singing the soprano/top layer), the G3-E3 area of her voice is so warm and isn't filled with air like lots of sopranos (even her sustained G3 in the 2014 arrangement of o holy night was warm and womanly!). those mid belts are alwayssss to die for (D5s in o holy night and E♭5s in please santa please oh she better fckng singgg!) and i love in general how her voice is like a mix of broadway meets pop/r&b diva. loving the usage of the upper belts as well, & the B♭5 adlib really surprised me! i cannot waittt till she fully embraces her upper register and really shows off with it in studio (seasons of love was just a taste), she is so modest with it even while having full access to whistle register (and isn't even disconnected) lol, she is so underrated as a female vocalist and im very happy they chose her solo as the single. that's all haha would love to hear more of your thoughts as well

as always i recommend reading the description become commenting anything ;) god this album left me sooo drained. there are a lot of things happening in the background of "kiss from a rose" that are practically impossible to tell. there's a possibility mitch hits a C5 at the end of it but who knows honestly. please santa please was also a strange case with matt. i've let the G1 and not the F1 later in that phrase because i can hear matt's voice in the line with the G1, not so much the F1. there's also a possibility that both the G1 and F1 are voice manipulation or part of the backing track. there are more cases like that across all songs but these are the ones that stand out to me. as always, let me know if you find anything else :)
