SSDI is a scam. They'll help you out when you need it, but they have a complex set of rules that they'll never explain to you until it's too late. If you go over their income limit (which keeps changing every year) for even ONE month (even if it's a bonus or a month with three pay periods instead of two), they'll declare that you're "cured," even if you're not. However, they won't tell you about until about a year later, when they've already sent you hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of benefits...and THEN they'll demand that you pay it all back, even if you can't. You'll end up even poorer than you were when you started on SSII, and you'll still be disabled.

So really, can you work on SSDI for 8 years if you stay under the SGA limits? The Trial Work Period is 9 months, but you can stretch that over 5 years. Then you can do the Extended period of eligibility for 3 years, which is 8 yeas total. But if you do the 9 months straight and then get the extended, that is 3 years and 9 months right? Question is...how can you get the 9 months and the 3 years without losing the benefits? Just stay under the SGA amount each month?

According to a letter about SSI that I received on Oct 2021, there is a requirement that an applicant be "at least age 65... OR,... be blind or disabled", which seems to expand the disability requirement stated here.

I hate to break it to you, but I've been on SSI for a long time and I can say this a lot of these rules are unconstitutional based on the poverty line, the minimum wage, the cost of living, as well as the fact that these rules ties Social Security to Medicare insurance which makes it out to be like a legal bribe to keep the disabled person under $2,000, it's not that they have to make either $5,000 or $10,000 just to pay their medical debt without insurance. This is the exact reason why we need Universal Basic Income and Social Security reform, because this is a violation of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment so long as the cap is not at $12,000 a year per account.

Well you got part of the math right your earnings ($10/hr 30 hours/wk) $1,200 +$225 (please explain $1,200 -$85 /2) Since your allowed to earn a whole $85 a month woo who! but then you ALSO need to figure in taxes (guessing) apx. $300/mo, And YES you CAN keep your medicaid, However YOU will have to PAY for it to the tune one $265/mo. Oh yeah your "income" went up so your foodstamps WILL go down (this amount will vary) $50, And oh yeah you almost forgot, How are you going to get to work? Well lets buy a cheap but reliable car put it on the road and insure it, Shall we? you spend $5,000 on a car but you obviously don't have $5k because your total asset limit is $2k and ZERO CENTS! so your new car payment is $150, and FULL coverage insurance with no driving history is another $100, and lets not forget to put gas in the car $50, and a $30 oil change once every 3 months ($10 a month) ALL of these expenses are things you would NOT have if you didn't have a job so I think this is all fair. And their would be other one time expenses like interview clothes, and work shoes. But we will just skip all of that, Lets see how much you will REALLY be "making" and the end of the month! $1,200 + $225 (1425) -300 -265 -50 -150 -100 -10 = $545 Whoops what happened? compared to NOT working all of a sudden I have less. For one moment lets say you are close enough and capable of walking to work and back, So you don't need to buy a car GREAT so you get to add $310 a month So your new take home, Not having transportation instead opting to walk, Will be $855 That's better and LOOK your earning "more" a whole $72 MORE! for ONLY 120 HOURS of work!
