I am really enjoying your videos! It takes me back to wonderful memories. I remember taking the train from Trumbull CT to the city with my grandparents when I was a kid. I was a little scared leaving the safety of our small town into the city and seeing all those huge buildings and going through Harlem. My grandparents took us to a movie, I think it was Kelly's Heroes. Hah! When I got older and moved away, I went to NYC a lot for business. Grand Central is super amazing - too bad I never had the time to really look at it. Thank you for sharing!!

Great video. I'm 62 and grew up going to the Big E from Ct. It was like Disneyland for me. Mom would take us out of school midweek b/c she wasn't taking 4 kids in the weekend crowd. I do the same for mine. They know we go Rain or Shine Train is $6. Big E calories don't count if you are walking Required are: Buying my supply of OdorGone from Better Living Center and Amy's soap from the Massachusetts Building Fried Chese curds Dels Frozen Lemonade from RI building Sam Adam's Cherry Wheat on Draft Shout out to Dole Whip at the end of the Ave of States. Their First year at the fair. If you love orange pez, get the Orange Float (pineapple soft serve with Orange Fanta- YUM). Also Chocolate Moonshine Fudge- worth every penny. Their Tennessee Whiskey is a new fav besides my #1 Penuche Best new tries this year were: Dolewhip (had to bring one home for hubby) deep fried butter (not at all what it sounds like) Taco Deviled Eggs Thanks for the video, LaurieO

I grew up in New Milford, so I know Litchfield. Two important historical points: the First Congregational Church was once pastored by Lyman Beecher, father of Henry Ward Beecher ("The Most Famous Man in America") and abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Litchfield is also the town where the nation's first law school, Tapping Reeve law school was established.

That ferris wheel is not permanent--I go to events there all year and there is no Ferris wheel. it's all the for the fair. In fact, you would not recognize the wide open site when the fair is there.

I am 81 years old and was born and raised in Middletown. I can write a history of what Middletown was like in the 40's and 50's. I go back there often and miss it very much. I have often thought of writing a legacy of growing up there but I don't know who would like to read about it. Anyway I enjoyed your video and could easily pin point where places used to be, especially main st.

Thank you for this video. I have so many fond memories growing up in CT - I grew up in an old colonial on White Plains Rd on corner Wesley Dr, then Leonard Place and then in Nichols on Booth Hill Rd. Loved the bunny fountain. Went to Center School (I am so sad it's gone) - my grandpa is buried in the cemetery next door. Went to Madison Jr and then Trumbull High (when they had the smoking section outside), played tennis at that park, went swimming at Tashua. I simply LOVED the old town feel, the old Trumbull Library, going down those steps for the kids area - with that smell of old books and oak. I shopped many times at Korvette's and then went to see a movie at that stand alone cinema. I cried all throughout your video. I wish I could go back in time. I live in AZ now.

Sadly, Middletown relied on one factory basically for its commerce. Now that that’s over for Betty years there really is no economy there except some little eateries and such. The town Doug years ago. They fix up that main street pretty well they’ve been doing that for decades. They try to get people to move there, but basically what happens is people leave there. The old neighborhoods are gone. Like a lot of American towns and cities, it was prosperous in the past. And now they’re just trying to hang on. There are towns and cities like this. Every once in a while, they’ll have an event or something. We’ll try to get interest back into the town. People say we’re doing this for the town that we’re doing this for the city. But the town of the city is not a living being where if you hold some event, and your neighbor show up and smile that doesn’t give it longevity. They just don’t understand commerce. They don’t understand Connecticut should’ve treated business as well. But they saw business as the enemy. They wanted the businesses out of Connecticut. Saw the big manufacturers left and went down south. And with them with the jobs. And a lot of the residents and the state look up on this as if they’ve achieved some thing. But what they’ve done is, they’ve helped destroy their communities and increase their taxes. It is a have to pay more taxes you have elderly people losing the homes that they paid off the mortgage on years ago. You have young people moving back in with their parents. These are typical Connecticut stories. This is what happens when you run that kind of government. Go up to Massachusetts go up to any of these northeastern states when you’re outside of the city and by the way you want to see depressed cities? Just look at New Haven look at Bridgeport. Ridge Portsmouth fallen apart since the end of World War II! You mean to tell me they couldn’t of saved Bridgeport? Well, they had some events thinking that this was going to breathe new life into Bridgeport but that’s not how it works. With a needed to do was create a huge industrial park area and knocked out a lot of those old factory buildings. But no they didn’t do that. They hate business. They hate commerce. It’s representative of the American system to them and they hate that. So they get rid of all the jobs and then the businesses that go in the jobs go and there’s no money there’s no work and people start living off the state. And that’s how Connecticut years ago ended up in such a way that more people were living off the state. then those who actually had jobs in the state and other words, the biggest employer in the state of Connecticut was the state of Connecticut. And that made them thrilled. They could control people everything. The only thing that doesn’t give you is money to run everything so they just text the people more and more. And a dirty secret is even though the casinos are tax exempt they have a deal with the casinos to pay the state millions of dollars. I hate to use the term shakedown money. But think about it. And also ask yourself how come politicians don’t have a lot of money when they going to politics but very quickly become millionaires? And of course. Everybody admires them because they have this high social standing. They live in mansions they have fancy cars well all those things are provided for them through your taxes. And they become multimillionaires and nobody questions this. And the people in Connecticut are least of all the ones to question something like that.

I was there today. My hometown! Yeah! As kids, we sleigh rided down that tiny little hill on East Main. I ripped my jeans on the pricker bushes 🤣 You walked right past my family house that is for sale right now. My parents ate at Billies. They had a fire and then closed for a while. They used to have home cooked type meals. There is a new restaurant in Chandlers Square called the Castaways. Check it out. During the summer months I enjoy sitting on the deck on the harbor at Danfords. It was good once. Not sure about now. Under new ownership. This was a great tour. Lots of great things to buy there, too. Thanks a bunch! God bless you!
