Basic rules of guiding: always face the people you are guiding, never walk and talk at the same time and, for basic safety reasons, do not point at something while walking! The Rock of Cashel is beautiful and so rich historically and architecturally. Why not put a little bit of effort into training its guides?
@thestandingstone326717 күн бұрын
This is clearly a promo shot and not a real guided tour. No need to insult the guide in the shot.
@erinsview891916 күн бұрын
@@thestandingstone3267 I do not insult people in real life and would certainly never do it online and I can't figure out how you could read my comment as an insult. I was not even speaking specifically about the guide in this shot but about OPW's view of guiding . They are entrusted with preserving and promoting the most interesting sites Ireland has to offer, and do not even bother to train their guides. The simple fact that their promo shot features a personne flaunting every rule a guide should kmow (on a shot that is not about the site, barely visible, but about its guides) shows the OPW's lack of consideration for the profession. I have seen good guides at the Rock of Cashel and at other OPW sites. Unfortunately they are far few and far between.

Interesting to note, specimens planted in Ireland, the UK and Oregon in the past 20 years are enormous and healthy. Specimens in Aus planted at the same time or earlier are typically smaller and scraggly. The reason it was undiscovered and almost extinct - it’s a relic of a long gone temperate Australian climate. It doesn’t belong in its native environment.

well why isnt there any in Tasmania? the climate is like the UK
@Freshbott2Ай бұрын
@@blakespower dunno it’s a geological oddity, especially since they’re present in the Tassie fossil record. More than likely when the climate was cooler, their range would have been further north and south. The same is true of a lot of relic species especially further north where they’ve been trapped on islands of microclimates or soil types. To speculate, it might be less about rainfall changes alone but the combination or rainfall and intrusion by eucalypts and acacias. Likewise for human activity. Why it’s different to eg. Southern beech that range from Tassie all the way up to the colder parts of Queensland maybe we’ll know one day. We don’t know for a fact their range wasn’t broader even just a few hundred years ago.

Interesting that in this safety video the Captain of the inflatable rib is wearing a pair of Addidas flat soled trainers! Youd think theyd make a safety film telling the "staff" to dress appropriately for filming. Ah well!

The Brutality of the British in Ireland was appalling. I live 5 minutes away from Kilmainham Jail museum, and I have been in the cells in the East Wing, reason was that I deliver goods to the Jail and they stored some goods in the cells. The system has since changed and I have no longer been asked to take goods to the East Wing. The cruelty to prisoners by the Brits was disgusting. I had an English friend that visited the Jail and did the tour, and he told me he was ashamed of what his countrymen did in that Prison.
