Plug is for abs cable should be abs for abs model. As i said before is the gearbox ok? Is the clutch .clutch realse bearing ok? Is the gearstick shifter adjusted right if that isnt set right wont go in gear
@VisaGeezer3 күн бұрын
@@richardfirth6173 okay so why would you use a clutch cable for cars with abs once it’s removed? That cable is longer. Gearbox is fine. Release bearing was changed with the clutch and it goes into gear when engine is off. I’m sure if the abs had been removed the non abs cable would then be used as it’s shorter. I could be wrong.
@aliso80173 күн бұрын
Last video I adviced you to check the gearbox rods, did you do it? If the problem was just the clutch not disenganging or disenganging to little, you would hear grinding noises when trying to put it in gear! You have no noises, so I would asume the gear lever isn't able to engage them pinions. Check that the reaction rod is safely secured and won't move, and that the other rod is indeed doing its thing.
@VisaGeezer3 күн бұрын
@aliso8017 hi yes checked those and all is fine. It just seems the cables very stretched somehow. I’ve now put two nuts on as spacers and still won’t engage but it did move the adjuster a few. Going to try a new cable next.

I don't know of any model or version of the MK4 RS that came without ABS, they all had the stupid Ford belt driven mechanical system. And many if not most owners removed it, which seems the case in your car. As for your clutch, I find it puzzling that gears are not screeching when trying to engage them, they just don't go into position. Are you sure the gear linkage is working properly? I see wobble when you move the lever, there are two plastic pieces that wear out under it and cause that, but maybe your rods are not acting properly, there are silentblocks where it attaches to the gearbox in the reacton rod, check that it has no play. Ideally rise the car with engine stopped and have someone press the lutch and see how much travel you get at the end of the cable and if the gear rods move enough when trying to put it in gear.
@VisaGeezer11 күн бұрын
@aliso8017 thanks for your advice. I will look into your suggestion. Travel does not seem to do anything on pedal for about 2cm then you get leverage. Hence cable could be wrong or it’s been stretched. I’ve order both types of cable but first I’m going to try putting in something (thick washer) to see if it fixes it. Then I will know it’s cable related. Then compare cable on the car to the other two as there is a 7cm difference.

Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, If no one else can help and if you can find them. Maybe you can hire, The A-Team. Only joking !🙃 Right back in the day these used to be a right pig on all Fords . you may have replaced everything but it's highly likely that ratchet isn't operating correctly . basically there's too much slack in the adjustment, this is a few moments job . Requires two of you, one pressing on the clutch, and you need a large flat screwdriver or lever to force the clutch arm on the bell housing towards the the direction of travel , the clutch operates . This forces the quadrant to take up more slack . I don't believe it's the cable because regardless of the model the have the same gearbox. If my trick doesn't work then it's likely the cable is stretched. Another thought is the clutch arm is distorted inside or has been substituted for the incorrect one. Hope this information helps
