I do not understand how they can bring up the Vrba report and still not place some responsibility on the Judenrat because Vrba was VERY clear they blew them off put them in a house with all the bells n whistles but did not provide shoes to they cannot leave. it was not until a second set escaped and backed them up. the judenrat arrived at the trains and passed out milk and bread 2 transports. The incredible amount of strength the survivors have is completely unimaginable. I'm so sorry that all of you had to endure. I enlisted in the Army in 2005 partly due to 9/11 and so I could help ensure nothing like what happened to you ever happens in my lifetime. You should be the heroes my generations children should be looking up to.

Thank you so much Jacob Shoshan for making this presentation with such sensitivity. The reality will always be painful to view and to comprehend and yet for those of use who lived safe and comfortable lives in countries like South Africa during those dark years of WWII it becomes essential to allow ourselves to be witnesses of the tragic loss of so many of our unknown brethren in Lithuania/Vilna, Latvia, Poland etc etc. In my case, I was blessed to enjoy my childhood together with the wonderful company of my father's parents who left Vilna/Odessa at the end of the 1800s, and my mother's parents who left Riga/Lodz at the beginning of the 1900s. I loved their bantering in YIDDISH, RUSSIAN, POLISH and all the rich Jewish traditions that they showered upon us. I treasure their Memory every day of my life and share as much as possible of their Memory with my daughters and my grandchildren.
