One of the most unfaithful adaptations I have seen. It has some of the key events but lost the whole soul of the book. It reduce it to common revenge and missed the larger theme id the story. A decent movie if it wasn’t an adaption of one of the great works. Even the anime version did a better job.

When Capaldi left in Twice Upon a Time, I thought it was just another era ending before we start a new one. But looking back, it was actually the end of the show all together (for me anyway). Great edit 👌

the worst movie about the Count of Monte Cristo. Totally invented, nothing to do with the fantastic story of Alexandre Dumas. They should have called it "The Count of Monte Cristo rewritten by us". Horrible. le pire film sur le Comte de Monte-Cristo. Totalement inventé, rien à voir avec l'histoire fantastique d'Alexandre Dumas. Ils auraient dû l'intituler « Le Comte de Monte-Cristo réécrit par nos soins ». Horrible.

Gracias Sr. Dumas por esta obra de arte, Niney me deja la sensacion de entregarse en el personaje, presenta el dolor y la sed de justicia muy bien representada, en actuaciones salva esta adaptacion, el vestuario, escenografia y musica son extraordinarios. !Ya vi la pelicula 2 veces y si no fuera por Haydee, Mercedes y Benedetto ,la veria un sin fin de veces, me parecen errores imperdonables para Dumas y para quienes conocemos la trama de esta obra extraordinaria!

It is the first good adaptation of this romance in many years. I remember there was also a German, Italian, or French version released in the 1960s or 1970s that I liked. I also like the USSR version, but they cut off many things from it. This looks promising for me.

I sent Edmond and Haydée in the film. They have more chemistry in the film even though the writer tried to force Edmond and Mercedes, Haydée and Albert. Edmond and Haydée look like vampires. Dumas is always right in everything he wrote in the book.

Yes, that's what happens at the end of the book. They leave together. I wonder if we'll ever get a version that perfectly adapts the ending of the book.

The Russian film The Prisoner of Château d'If (1988) shows the Count sailing with Haydee and in the final scene the two kiss.

Honestly, I find this ending to be much more plausible. I know Dumas loved his happy endings, but personally, I prefer conclusions to be logical and true to the plot rather than pretty and far fetched. Not everything in life can be tied in a neat little bow.
