Those funky tall wings on the sidepods of the Jordans, Saubers and one or two others were the ugliest things since back in the 70's and early 80's when some teams would show up with crazy looking parts or entire cars that made it appear that the car designer was legally blind and the mechanics who built them were high on meth, just bolting random parts from the local hardware store all over the cars just hoping that they would get lucky and something would eventually help them go faster...

Villeneuve got the dirty end of the stick on that first stoppage.

Aussie commentator says the illegal wooden plank was nonsense? It was cheating. How about the fuel lines Benneton had illegally rigged? Joke.
@MrRodzilla3 жыл бұрын
it was complete nonsense, they were trying to create a more interesting closer championship and banned schumacher for minimal incidents, like passing hill momentarily on the formation lap the joke is how people still believe schumacher was using traction control, one look at his wheelspin at the start of the 1994 brazilian gp should be enough to destroy that theory but it remains

Most totally acceptable car modifications and setups now a days are considered cheating. I say.... let em cheat!

Amazingly, this was the first win for a reigning World Champion since Michael Schumacher won in Italy in 1996

Wow good stat👌That's never occurred to me for some reason. Shows how inferior the cars Hill and Villeneuve had in their defending years were doesn't it, although Damon nearly won Hungary and Jacques had a shot at Canada, if he'd not shot past Fisichella and completely redesigned Turn 1🙂

Alex Wurz is quite the F1 bust. He came in with a fanfare and never accumulated more than 2 podium finishes (3 officially) in his career

this win for schumacher was much better than hungary 1998, he had to beat hakkinen in a straight up fight 2 stop vs 1 stop after getting dropped behind the mclarens, so he had to pass them both then get the pitstop advantage, and see the way he is pushing in hungary that was basically mclaren putting race ending fuel and handicapping themselves
@VinsUplifting3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for uploading this. 1998 is one of my favorite season even though it was the first one with slicks. Imo those cars had the best compromise between simplicity and modernity if you know what i mean. Also, it is quite unbelievable how good that Arrows chassis must have been, performing so well with the underpowered Hart engine.
@john-kl3ux3 жыл бұрын
How times have changed w.r.t safety. Fisichella and Irvine beached right in the firing line at turn 1 along with a digger and cars flying past at racing speeds. Its a miracle there were no more accidents like Bianchi's in F1.

Yeah Brundle used to point it out quite regularly that a Bianchi incident could happen.
