Yeah, having a bigger number in a calculator is a very boring concept compared to strategy, or having both strong and weak points.

Yh I feel that at equal skill the outcome of a fight is a toss up most of the time. Thorfinn is small and fast and Thorkell has trouble with those types of fighters. Askeladd has been that small fighter before but also knows thorfinn very well and thus exploits that. Thorkell is strength incarnate but unlike thorfinn is too old and experienced to lose his cool in a fight.

@K2Tanuki8 күн бұрын
Thorfinn didnt beat Thorkell in a 1v1. Askeladd cheated on his behalf. My friends and I watched this together and we had a debate on it and came to the following conclusions: Vinland saga is an anime where 99.99% of the population are normal humans with human limits and fights go by who has the better skill/equipment. The setting considers itself a normal historical fantasy. But.. 0.01% of the population are born with what we call 'anime physics'. Hence why Thorkell can throw entire trees as siege weapons with his bare hands and Thorfinn can wade through a squad of armoured warriors with nothing but dagger and jump and defy physics like inertia on a dime while stabbing through chainmail with a casual arm swipe. These people who have 'anime physics' learn they have it early on but never call attention to it. Askeladd realized he had anime physics but understood he had a low grade of it, but uses his genius intellect to make the best use of it. Even low grade anime bs was enough to defeat the entire kings guard. Thors realized he had anime physics but decided it was immoral to continue to use it vs helpless normals so went in to hiding. Thorkell realizes he has it and can identify other people who have it if he see's them in action and absolutely revels in it, he's having a blast defying physics like punching out charging horses and pinballing normal humans and using trees as personal siege weapons. Thorfinn is just too dumb to realize he has anime physics but subconsciously understands he can attack a whole castle on his own and win.
@geekingproperly12888 күн бұрын
This is an awesome take man. I'm glad it made for some conversation with your friends. That's the whole point! I agree with your conclusions, when someone has "anime physics", obviously they could beat 99% of people who don't. The interesting part is what Thorkell says. Basically, not because someone has more anime physics means that person would lose against someone who has more... Strategy plays a hugee role, and I thinks this is true not only for Vinland but for Fighting games, tennis, etc
@beansworth56947 күн бұрын
I agree that practically speaking that's what's going on if we go about judging the comparative abilities of characters if they existed in a real world with consistent physical rules, however the truth is they don't exist in a world with consistent rules and anime physics give out or amp up whenever it's narratively convenient in order to justify the vibe of a character and their faculties.
@moch.farisdzulfiqar61233 күн бұрын
Thorfinn not too dumb, he could enter the flow state to see Thorkell movement but lack strength and weapon advantage to deliver a fatal blow. Askeladd even pointed Thorfinn weakness which is his hot headed nature that could easily be exploited by him, even Thorkell unintentionally provoke Thorfinn by asking the true warrior meaning and Thorfinn realized it as a cheap trick, yet when Askeladd did it, he took the bait. Also, I think Thorfinn spend more of his anime physics points on dexterity than strength. In the season 2, we see that Thorfinn get more muscular due to slave work in Ketil farm and his punch alone easily dislocate jaw, but not enough to beat Snake tho, because he restraint himself this time with a pacifist philosophy. As for Askeladd, I won't said it as a low grade tho, since he could broke Thors' sword during their duel (I don't think blow fractures and slashing technique alone could break a steel like a twig tho) and he can cut a man vertically with a sword from head (which is protected by an iron helmet, mind you) to bottom long before his last stand. He could just let his anger drive him, but he didn't want make his former men using bows and arrows because he just too strong for them in meelee combat. Beside, he like to be in control rather than fighting like a beast, that's what separated him from the typical savage viking, something that he hated so much.
@abishekta87978 күн бұрын
bro you have a point, like in pokemom water type beats fire, fire type beats grass and grass type beats water. But Thorfinn is stronger than askalaad, just that he gets very emotional and askalaad uses taunting to goad him into a mistake
@geekingproperly12888 күн бұрын
Bro, like you, I love Vinland Saga. I know that Thorfinn could beat Asklaad if he didn't get so emotional. My point wasn't like the Pokemon trianlge, it's not "Rock, Paper, Scissors". My point is what Thorkell said... Even though someone might be "stronger", that doesn't mean that they are gonna win. Ranking people is interesting in paper, but in practice, strategy plays a huge role. Also, I think this applies to other things, not only Vinland. Thank you for watching the video, and leaving a comment! Hope you have an awesome day!

Why read or watch *adaptations* when you could be reading the *original* source light novel? 🍷🧐 I jest. I just read my manga and novels because I get the content sooner, it has less obstacles to me getting it easily, and I can go through it at my own pace. I don't feel superior about having the story sooner, and I don't intend to spoil. I'm happy to hear about anime fans being excited about an upcoming plot development.

I agree with you. I've tried reading manga because I just couldn't wait for the anime adaptation and it actually diminished (ever-so-slightly) my enjoyment when the anime came out. Happened with JJK actually. I don't know if I'm just not a manga guy, but I currently think reading the manga is officially spoiling yourself the anime, although I know people who read manga but don't watch anime. Weirdos those fellows. Then again, where does an anime like Blue Lock fall into all this? Because at least this second season it really is just a colored manga with some eye or mouth movements lol Either way, great video bro. And I counted two times the headphones disappeared lol those where some good magic tricks. And the new mic sounds great!

Thought i was the only one that has that conflicted feeling of regret when an anime starts adapting the bits you caught up on. Like you said enjoyment is slightly diminished and with jjk shibuya I got kinda jealous of the anime onlys. Then I understood why most manga readers have that superiority complex it’s all s coping mechanism lol to the point it becomes their whole identity. I only really feel a type of way when the anime catches up years later but in the moment I don’t regret it one bit I don’t think you or i are that down bad yet pal
@geekingproperly12888 күн бұрын

Twice, your headphones appear and disappear twice! Also, manga readers and anime watchers (just as book readers and movie watchers) should learn to appretiate both forms of expression as separate things, some titles are better to read in the manga while others have genuinely georgious animation. There's also this golden moment when the manga explanations are reflected in a subtle way in the anime that just makes reading AND watching the same title something of a complete experience.
@geekingproperly128815 күн бұрын
Haha I have so much to say to you, but I'll try to make it brief. First, you are awesome. Thank you for playing the "mini game". Originally, my headphones dissapeared and appear like 5 or 6 times, but that cut during editing. Second, I completly agree when you say both forms are awesome and should be appreciated it separately. Third, could you give me an example of that "golden moment"? It caught my attention. I want to see if I can relate. Lastly, thank you for watching the video and leaving a comment, friend. I feel you! Also, what has been happening is that they extend the anime so that they can make full seasons out of just a couple of chapters. Which is whats has been happening with JJK and Kimetsu.

Ayo. Samus main here. I think this guide is very beneficial for many people who fight a lot of Samus players at a mid level (especially online), but there are a couple things that I don't believe hold true when fighting more experienced Samus players. 1) Samus does not _have_ to make reads constantly. She has several non-commital moves that can be thrown out to force defencive options. The main example of this is Z-air, which is at least _one of_ her best moves behind charge shot. It's a _huge_ unreactable hitbox with a strong multi-hit tipper that essentially covers the entire "flinch distance" you mentioned. The landing tipper even kill confirms at super high percents into grab + up throw. Jab-one is another example. It comes out frame 3, and if spaced, is completely unpunishable if Samus dashes back. It's not a bad move at all, as it's a great way to condition people to shield. Samus can react to your option after you get hit by using pivot grab or an aerial. 2) The section starting at 1:12 doesn't mention the very prominent threat of Samus holding shield to wait for a poorly spaced aerial and punish with Up-Special. Samus players of all levels will do this, and considering how absurdly fast the move is, she can always react to unsafe approaches with it. Samus can also control which direction you get sent in after the up-special, so you're almost always going straight to disadvantage after it hits. Samus still has to shield before you attack of course, but this option rebuttles the idea that she can't respond to you without guessing. It's also invincible, so any unspaced move will always be caught out regardless of strength. 3) While this may not be the intention, the section at 1:12 makes it seem like these are the only good options Samus can do in this situation. There's the zair, shielding for an up special punish, spotdodge -> down-tilt, drifting with bomb, and on-reaction rising up-air (which is more rewarding than raw forward-air and won't cause landing lag). Samus just has way more options than what's on display here, and so this part only helps with a few of the basic options she has in neutral. Preemptive grab is also just a bad idea most of the time. Some Samus players may try this since it nets a big reward, but it's more punishable than anything else Samus has. She will generally only go for grabs when she has conditioned you to shield a lot with her other moves. 4) The statement "You can always react to jab one" is true, but it still puts you in a really bad spot against a character who is amazing at conditioning and punishing defencive options. Don't always shield, don't always jump, and never roll towards Samus. 5) Samus likes to be in the air a lot more than you seem to think. B-reverse momentum shifts are amazing, up-air is rewarding and fast, and the morph-ball form from down-special actually gives her a slight boost in air speed. Being juggled is obviously really bad for her, but she has more tools to get out of this situation than a lot of other characters do. Her fast fall airdodge is also very good. If she needs to, she can easily retreat to ledge and tether grab to skip the juggling entirely. Thats about it. There are a few other niche Samus things I know, but they aren't as relevant. Just note that Samus only has to play the RPS game to essentially the same extent as any other character. The reason this guide will still work most of the time is that Samus's kit can often lead people who play her to behave extremely linearly in a match. Most Samus’s _will_ play RPS way more than they have to, and so this guide is very effective at teaching people to counter that. I wanted to leave this comment in case someone is trying to fight a really good Samus at a local or online tournament. None of this is criticism, just clarification. Thank you for indulging me.

Do you have any additional tips on how to combat Samus? It's very discouraging playing against characters like Samus, Sonic and Steve where their ability to camp in a corner forces you to play their game the entire time. With moves like Zair and other safe options not covered in the video, what are some genuine vulnerabilities in Samus' kit and playstyle?
