Oh boy, this will be my first time in Essentials and I'm tutoring---this is a LOT to learn in one week!
@SoulshineMamaOfficial2 ай бұрын
Aww, that is A LOT!! I do know. We came into essentials mid October, the year before I made this video. So I was a newbie too. I filled in for someone at the last minute until they were able to take over. It is a lot, but you can do it!! Find what works for you and do your best, no one retains everything the first time around. If you have seasoned parents and students in your class, remember they may be willing to be helpers as well! If not, remember you are all learning together and this is an “introduction” year! I reminded myself that teaching something would force me to learn it, and it did help me to learn it much more quickly than I would’ve had I only been sitting in class listening. You’ve got this!! 🙏🏼🧘🏻♀️💛✨

Hey there! I am diving in to the math map this year with my soon to be 11 year old. It's his 2nd year in Foundations/Essentials. I have downloaded the digital copy of Fractions since that is what is available. However, it does not come with the charts for reference. But in the lessons it gives many directions to use the charts. Are the charts the same in every domain? In other words, are the charts utilized in the print version of the complex domain the same charts that will be utilized for reference in the fractions domain? If so, I will purchase the complex in print so I can use those charts now since in a couple years he will be using complex anyway :)
@SoulshineMamaOfficial3 ай бұрын
@@aubrirussell3557 Hey Aubri! That is awesome. I heard just today that they had finished the updates and completed the fractions curriculum, and that it was available for download. I am not sure about the charts. I think I was told they are the same in the each set- like don’t worry about keeping them in mint condition you will get another copy of them with the next curriculum set- but I will double check and get back with you! And given all the concepts are supposed to be the same, just diving deeper and deeper into them with each progressing curriculum, again, I believe the charts are the same, but I will get back with you to confirm!
@SoulshineMamaOfficial3 ай бұрын
Hello again, Aubri. I reached out to CC customer service. Left them a vmail early on Thursday or Friday and didn’t hear back. I have spoken to our director and another mom, and no one could confirm for sure, but we are all under the understanding that the charts are the same across the curriculum. It was confirmed that the downloads don’t include the charts, which makes no sense to me, but. I guess, as long as the solutions are there and you have access to the MMC on CC connected they must feel that’s enough. I just wanted to update you and let you know I have tried. I will confirm what they say when I get an answer.

Thank you! Please do one for each week. We do not have a community near us. We are going it alone and I’m so stressed and overwhelmed with what to do and how to do it. Videos for the songs and all would be so wonderful and helpful for each week. Thank you again for this!
@SoulshineMamaOfficial4 ай бұрын
@@christinlattimore2685 Hey! So glad you found it helpful!! It is a lot, but just remember you guys aren’t going to master it all or learn it all the first go around! That’s the beauty of the curriculum, you get to repeat it, and next year even more things will be familiar and understood and retained! I’ve done videos for a lot of the weeks. If there was memory work and songs to learn I tried to do a shorter video for that, but those are mostly in the earlier weeks. I am going to try and fill in the gaps as the year progresses. I believe all of weeks 1-6 are already up though. 💛 For the writing (which I didn’t continue to cover every week) the IEW videos by Mr. Pudewa are very helpful, as is the teacher manual they provide with the curriculum!

We looooove this! Will you be making one for each week?
@SoulshineMamaOfficial4 ай бұрын
@@AliciaGreen-gk5zl Aww, I’m so glad it was helpful! 🥰 I need to fill in some gaps with my essentials videos, but the charts videos have been done. There are only so many main charts, and only so many that I know catchy tunes to. You’ve seen week 1. I also have memory work videos up for week 2 Verbs, week 3 Nouns, Week 4 Pronouns, Week 5 is a playlist for all those weeks as you review previous weeks for week 5. Week 6 Conjunctions has a video, and then there are shorts for some the individual memory work songs. If I recall correctly, the rest of the weeks are more diving into different specifics from the charts, and learning to diagram the different sentence patterns. You just keep working on memorizing the memory work songs you have already learned, on your own time as you continue on. Every tutor has their own way of instructing. I really dove into the memory work songs for the charts, because I just felt like they helped make things easier to remember, but not every tutor will get up and have you guys sing the songs, and there are probably a couple different versions of some songs. I researched and found the ones that I felt were best and went with those.

Thank you. We left CC during the first year of Essentials. I have been thinking about pulling out the materials for my rising 6th grader. This is a great binder system.
@SoulshineMamaOfficial Жыл бұрын
We had some families that felt a little overwhelm from the Essentials program. (Not sure if that’s why you left) The key that helped me/us not feel the overwhelm was remembering we didn’t have to know it all the first time around! Learn what we could and then go from there was our motto. We actually started our first year of CC 3months into the program… so we had actually missed the first bit all together that first time around, because we pulled out of public school fall break of his 4th grade year. Last year was our first full year of essentials, and it took some devotion but it was much easier to understand the 2nd time through, and I committed to really learning all I could. So, 😅 I think pulling it out and revisiting the materials could be great. I actually have a workbook that he uses this year, in his new binder setup for at home only, and it’s been great. I can share with you if you’re interested. I’ll probably have to email it though. It’s only 3 days per week and simple but beneficial reviews.

Crystal is classical Conversations? new sub here
@SoulshineMamaOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Classical Conversations is a homeschool curriculum that teaches via the classical style of learning-- which means you cover a lot of the same materials over and over, as you cycle through, allowing you to memorize and master, instead of just memorizing for a moment to take a test and then moving on like the public education system does. It is based in a Christ-centered worldview, though I've known some folks that used the program who weren't necessarily Christians. We look at things in science and geography and other wondrous things and acknowledge the greatness of God and His creations, while also learning about other views. Aside from the curriculum, there are also Classical Conversations Communities... these communities are separate from the providers of the curriculum, but they adhere to their guidelines and work together. CC has curriculum and classes for 4 year olds through high school. The only drawback I've had with the community is that it is a bit costly to be a part of. I love our community itself though; lots of wonderful mamas, papas, and kiddos!! There is a lot of love, support, friendship, and encouragement within our community. We joined because I only have one kiddo at home now, and I wanted him to have the interaction with other kiddos and build friendships with other like minded kids/families. We only meet one day per week, but we also go on field trips, he has sleep-overs, and sometimes we do play dates with his CC friends, aside from other interactions he has through sports and with friends he made while in public school, before we started homeschooling. I hope that answers your question! I'm not short on words lol. I may do a video explaining a little more, explaining the different classes, and what a day at our CC community looks like...
