In case anyone hasn’t noticed. Two bonds are being built here. The first one was the gift given by Steven W.. The second is the bonding happening between the Father and Son. The “binder” is the stove.

It’s a beauty ! Great sympathetic restoration. I probably would have used a dremel or similar to clean the rust on the inside of the stove, (because I’m lazy)then perhaps a little “ rust restorer” before painting. I must keep a look out for one of these. Thanks for sharing.

Popped up in my feed.. I have several of these 288s,they work just fine.. but I don’t hold them in the same place as the earlier models,they just don’t seem as well made, but that does make them more usable. Still can’t pass up any Coleman models.. enjoy

@@eddayz7492 I have a couple of 220s that I've converted to Kerosene by adding a pre heating cup and swapping the jet. I have heard that it's possible to use Kerosene in an unconverted lantern but I haven't attempted that yet.

The ventilators are coated with porcelain. Paint would just burn off once you light the lantern

Yes, the feet can be replaced. They are held by rivets, though, and I haven't attempted to remove any. I have other stoves where the feet are loose and have not been successful in tightening them up.

@@doinsngoins Howdy Steve! I was holding out till I found a white gas model. The profane ones are easy to find. The white gas are harder to find and usually more expensive. To find a NOS, never fired was a treat!

I was smiling the whole time,watching you go through the same things as I did on my profane version of the North Star..😊 the snap ignition on mine doesn’t work, so match light, used it for the first time on the 4 th ,Good Lord is it bright! Oh and if you have an Ollie’s store nearby they might have mantles for it, 2 for 4 bucks.. enjoy

Life hack: set a thermacell pad on top of it at camp to clear a small area of mosquitoes around the lantern.

That is the clean out lever. It moves a needle located in the generator to clean out the jet nozzle. Have fun with your new lantern, and thanks for watching!
