By that point Quang Tri and Hue had already fallen, and President Thieu refused to send reinforcements, instead ordering the remnants of I Corps to fall back with the intent of mounting a defense around Saigon.

A GREAT video sparked memories of all the airlines I flew for in my 30+ years both as a flight attendant and off line passenger as a nonrev. Really takes me back! Thank you for sharing.

That is way similar to how Afghan refugees tried to cling onto an USAF Boeing C-17A Globemaster III during the Fall of Kabul a year ago in an attempt to flee Afghanistan.

Thank you Eric. Mad props for finding/posting this one! This clears up a lot of flotsam and jetsom theory. Also, no one was sucked out of the plane through the back stairs. No one had to be tethered to the chairs in order to help the person on the stairs.

Seaboard World Airlines and Flying Tigers both had passenger charters in addition to cargo, still operating when merged with Federal Express (FedEx) which continued for a short time under FedEx, so there were FedEx flight attendants for awhile, now long gone

The decision to close Bagram airbase for one in the heart of Kabul despite intelligence the Taliban would take over the country, is asking this history lesson to repeat itself. And the vision of the last plane leaving being shot down is certainly possible. Hope it does not happen. Thanks for keeping history alive.

People today are comparing Kabul to Saigon. But it's Da Nang that bears a closer resemblance. And here Dan Rather compares Da Nang to Dunkirk. Ambassador to South Vietnam Graham Martin said later in his testimony to Congress about the evacuations that he studied the evacuations of France and Belgium during WWI to see how best to avoid panic. He messed up despite his research. Biden messed up. Evacuations are just a last ditch move in a series of diplomatic and military failures. If the US doesn't invade any more countries then maybe we won't have to make bitch moves like this.

Well the rules are simple. Women and children first, followed by the eldearly. The numbers he gives for the passenger count on that plane tell you all you need to know. Only the healthy fit men got on board.

@@MB-cv5pz It's the same now with the plane in Afghanistan
@Elias-hj6cy3 жыл бұрын
@@MB-cv5pz yeah, well those rules don't work in the real world. The study of 18 maritime disasters from 1852 to 2011, involving some 15,000 passengers from more than 30 nations, found that the survival rate of women was on average about half that of men, and children had the lowest survival rate of all. In other words the commentator and you both are just keyboard heros. The statistic unfortunately goes against you and doesn't work anymore when SHTF.

@@dp6297 Trump made an agreement with the Taliban on Sep 2020 that the US would leave Afghanistan. So the ex-president is to blame for that.
@dp62973 жыл бұрын
@@Sneemaster With conditions dummy. Trump wouldn’t have let the Taliban just walk in without a heavy military response. He also wouldn’t have let them release prisoners, AND leave military weapons, aircraft, humvees all for the enemy. Most of all leave 30,000 allies and US citizens behind. Now Biden put 6,000 troops just to help secure an evacuation. This is a complete shit show. Enjoy your Presidents horrific surrender.

They weren't 100% cowards the Communist weren't interested in women and children they were interested in these men so they could torture them and find out what they know. I assume a communist "re-education camp" is worse than death. The Viet Cong were well known for their POW camps and had the sympathy of most the country so if you fought for the American side and had a wife and kid leaving them with family in Vietnam and splitting was prolly the best option all around.
