EU is at least trying to look after the consumers. We got USB-C on the iphone instead of paying Apple for dongles for years on end. So no. The solution is not for EU users to bend over and use VPNs when Apple threatens to pull features or leave. With US / China relations worsening I don't think Apple wants to lose another 450mln potential customer pool.

It is good to remind listeners that the Digital Market Act is there to prevent monopoly. Great for the EU, but shame on Apple for believing that freedom can be commodified through mere gadgets.

Every citizen should be required to spend '1 Day' per year as a Substitute Teacher at a public school - You will be SHOCKED at how insane schools are. This would lead to immediate changes in the law. Think about it- 'When is the last time you actually spent time in a school - 20+ years ago?' . . . One of my colleagues was assaulted by a student, and was bleeding, and the Principal said, "I heard that you want to call the police. But maybe we can just sit down with the student and talk to him." -- Is that how they handle assault at your corporate office job? Think about it.

A StarFive VisionFive 2 is relatively cheap (hundred beer tokens), a Framework Laptop is relatively expensive (800 plus beer tokens), for a DevBox / Evaluation board, that offers the performance of a seventy beer token, RaspberryPi 4B. A bootable USB C stick, with a RISC-V processor, USB Armoury style, would likely get far more traction, as could be plugged into any laptop or desktop with a unlocked boot loader, and offer a RISC-V hands on, till board, from your daily driver.

As a teacher, I am in favour of phones being banned in the classroom, however, having taught in England, China, and Thailand I have to say that a lot of teachers and teaching assistants do not set a good example. They are constantly glued to their phones. I would imagine there are similar problems in the USA. How hypocritical would it be to have a law saying no phones for students when teachers and teaching assistants are constantly using phones in the classroom.

Nothing but the expected retaliation and (straw man) argument by Apple regarding a supposed products and services downgrade due to having to allow third party app stores on iOS in order to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). 😤 Nothing more than a fig leave to trick EU citizens into opposing their own (best) interest… 🤯

I absolutely think there’s danger to social media. There ARE benefits, but their algorithms often show dark, sad, violent things. Whatever keeps you glued to the screen. Young people are definitely depressed. Some girls do get depressed when they see Instagram models and they question themselves.

Mattress stickers are for your warranty, basically, if it says who mfg it. Otherwise how do you prove it's what you say it is should you need to return it under warranty? That's what I was taught, but who knows, I could be wrong. In any event, I never remove them. On pillows, yeah. Only because sometimes when I'm asleep they sneak out of the case and slap me in the face. Scary, right? 😉

I'm of two minds about the stickers. First, I don't take them off anymore because the last time I tried to remove stickers from my laptop, it created a big mess. It looked horrible afterward because there were pieces of the stickers that I couldn't get off, and I ended up regretting it. Second, I feel like leaving the stickers on will not reduce the value of the computer if you decide to resell it, so I just keep the stickers on now.

There are two "reasons" for banning Kasp, The First is Security, all we need is a "rouge" programmer at Kasp to enter lines of code that would compromise systems. Second is that it stops a source of revenue for the Russian gov to fund war, this is essentially a sanction.
@who2u3332 күн бұрын
Louise is a good example of how the government has lost its trust with the people. It is simple to understand that the DoD can't just say 'Here is the evidence we have for banning Kaspersky' and Louise eludes to that, but she still has reservations with simply trusting what the government says. Her concern over how this ban might give a competitive advantage to another product is also telling. She indicates a level of concern for corporate competitiveness that is normally reserved for boardrooms. IMHO that shows the level of indoctrination (if that is the right word) Americans have received over the last ~50yrs about corporate interests.

People really lack imagination. I get online ads supporting social unrest which APPEAR to be from the west, but when I check the advertiser source, they're from former Soviet Union countries adjacent to Russia. Putin has unlimited resources to operate much more than just online counter-intelligence. He can change people's thoughts. The US government moves very slowly; it is not a dictatorship like Russia. And the discovery of counter-intelligence is also very slow. So for them to ban Kaspersky not only means Kaspersky is bad, it means Kaspersky has been bad for a long, long time. We've all gotta open our imaginations to what is possible when the world has a dictator of a nuclear power who has unlimited resources and unlimited immunity to all consequences. Vladimir Putin is the richest and most powerful life form in the history of the known universe. You should be afraid.
