His banjo cuts and when you hear that banjo you know its Ralph. Greatness is when you can hear the sound and know who playing it. Thats Ralph Stanley. The sound. Banjo sounds like a machine gun.

Thanks for sharing. This helps me keep fond memories of growing up poor on a small farm on the Blue Ridge Mountains in VA and watching them every morning on WDBJ before heading off for the 10 mile bus ride to Hillsville High School in the early 1960's. I saw them one time in person at a show at The Hillsville movie theater.

What an incredible archive of traditional music! Ricky grew up just down the road. Been watching him live since we were both too young to be in the places he was playin! 😂

There will never, ever be another Tony Rice. I feel blessed to have heard him play in person six times over thirty years, including his final performance in Raleigh. Pure majesty.

If it hadn't been for WWII we'd probably all be playing Reno style instead of Scruggs. Insanely creative and technically amazing.

I think Wyatt could have been a front man but he understood the genius ability of Tony and accepted his humble fate. Good thing.Yes,he was probably Tony's anchor! We all miss Tony
