I saw photographs taken after the fire that showed the outside of the white wooden board fence charged and the paint blistered and peeling, but the inside of the fence showed no signs of having been through the intense heat of the fire. Reports in newspapers of the time said that the people who took shelter on the site testified that it was cool in the chapel, or a comfortable temperature, and only a little warm on the grounds outside the chapel. All around the chapel grounds, photographs showed the devastation of the charred and scorched earth, with the little wooden chapel standing inside the intact wooden fenced grounds.
