I'm not sure if Ding wanted to lose on purpose but b4 Rf2??, there are so many other moves with the White bishop that can lead to a fortress, e.g. Bg2 and Bc6. Putting the bishop at the edge of the board reduced its scope of activity dramatically.

Whatever others say about the FIDE WCC not selecting the No. 1 player as WCC are their opinions and carry ZERO impact or consequences on the progress of chess. What we saw is that Gukesh won fair and square, and Ding acknowledged him as the new WCC. That's sufficient. India should be mightily proud of Gukesh's achievement. It is unprecedented.

Nice game. Do you know if any of the old clients still work after the site relaunch? Their new built in analysis is not very in-depth and when exporting PGNs it leaves off the end of the game - so I would of course rather play through a desktop client than having to export a (broken) PGN after every game, load it into another analysis program, and manually put in the last moves - which is the current state of affairs.
@vintagemotorsalways1676Ай бұрын
I looked again and found in their support articles that none of the old clients are supported anymore which is rather unfortunate. Hopefully they get the site at least working better and perhaps reconsider client support.

I'm not playing there anymore since my free trial subscription expired long ago. ICC is slow and buggy. Incomparable to lichess and chess.com. There's also the problem of rating deflation and lack of players >2000. Its 1400 rated players are like 1800 - 2000 rated players on chess.com. In terms of speed and user interface, no site beats lichess.

To all: When I mentioned the fork", it refers to dxe7 or Bxe7 after d6!
@sleepycritical69508 ай бұрын
I figured out why queen takes doesn’t work which is interesting in of itself. After Qxg5 black has to play Qe8 to block the mating square. The best move then is to push d7 to block the diagonal and threaten to take the queen but then e5 queen sac blocks the white queen and the white queen cannot take because it is defended. After dxe8=Q promoting to queen black will take back with rook and the e pawn is still defended which gives just enough time for the king to run away. Not for long sure, but he can still run away.
@JZChessVivaForever8 ай бұрын
That's correct. But do note that after Qxg5? e5! is the BEST way forward for Black. After Qxe5 Qe8! and Black defends. White still has a mate in 8 but a human would not find every move so easily.
@sleepycritical69508 ай бұрын
@@JZChessVivaForever huh that is interesting. I dismissed the immediate e5 but it seems I missed the attack on the queen with Qe8. It seems I had the right idea but the wrong sequence.
@JZChessVivaForever8 ай бұрын
After the immediate Qe8, White has Qc5! with Qc4+ to start the same mating sequence you saw in this clip. With the e5 pawn gone, the Black queen can move to e2 with check if White does Qc5? (Qxd4 is correct) - and the win for White will become a perpetual check after Kg1. Now if Kh3??, Black has Rh8+! and will mate White in 2! INSANE!! All these show how careful you must play in a winning position.
