PROCLAMATION.-BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: There is reason to believe that an armed expedition is about to be fitted out in the United States with the intention to invade the Island of Cuba, or some of the provinces of Mexico; the best information which the Executive has been able to obtain, points to the Island of Cuba as the object of this expedition. It is the duty of this Government to observe the faith of treaties, and to prevent any aggression by our citizens upon the territories of friendly nations. I have therefore thought it necessary and proper to issue this proclamation to warn all citizens who shall connect themselves with an enterprise so grossly in violation of our treaty obligations that they will thereby subject themselves to the heavy penalty denounced against them by our acts of Congress, and will forfeit their claim to the protection of their country. No such persons must expect the interference of this Government in any form in their behalf, no matter to what extremities they may be reduced, in consequence of their conduct. The enterprise to invade the territories of a friendly nation, set on foot and prosecuted within the limits of the United States, is in the highest degree criminal, as tending to endanger the peace and compromise the honor of the nation. And therefore I expect all good citizens, as they regard our national reputation, as they respect our laws, and laws of other nations, as they value the blessing of peace and the welfare of their country, to discourage and prevent, by all lawful means, any such enterprise, and I call upon every officer of this Government, civil or military, to use all efforts in his power to arrest for trial and punish every such offender against the laws providing for the performance of our sacred obligation to friendly powers. Given under my hand the 11th day of August, in the year our Lord 1849, and 74th of the independence of the United States.” ZACHARY TAYLOR, President ; J.M Clayton Secretary of State -From the book, “The War with Mexico reviewed”, By Abiel Livermore

If Kennedy were a Republican would this have been civil? Probably not. Progressivism was George Wallace. Surprise! Take notice liberal mayors. Will you go to jail for illegal alien criminals? Try us.

In Finland after the refugee crisis, the introduction of negroes to the school and other people of ither races have made the learning enviornment worse. I am sad to see that the segregation in American schools ended and segregation in general. From my own experiences I have come to the conclusion that segregation helps everyone it conserns

it's embarrassing how the yanks try to brag this fight, it was a nowhere near it, guerriere was out gunned out manned putting out half the weight of shot the only thing that was in their favour was the massive bollox they had, the yanks trying to play constitution of as a 44 gun 5th rate equivalent,,, it was 175ft about the same as a British 74gun 3rd rate and was pierced for up to 62 guns, and probably carried more than that, getting excited that guerrieres carronades didn't punch through like they were special. it's all just a propaganda exercise believing their own b/s, the only fair fight the yank frigates had was the Shannon, and Shannon was outgunned and won

"My sad duty ...": This was being diplomatic and respectful, not a personal complaint from the General. Wallace was Governor. This tactful statement allowed him to depart peacefully, without struggle or losing face. There"s no hidden meaning, as some comments are implying. The General came from Kennedy, the Commander in Chief. Maybe he was sad to see integration aka human rights getting helped in Alabama, but there's no evidence of that here or reason to think so. Those words were carefully scripted.

They knew the boat was neutral in the conflict and they knew it was not carrying any Chinese Nationalist Troops. Even when they boarded the ship shortly before the premeditated bombing, they already knew. The ship was carrying refugees, American refugees, not military personnel. America was not ready yet for war, but began to prepare after this atrocity. Some Americans could see what was coming. Japan made no mistake about it as they had been expanding for the previous 5 years. This was like Hitlers expansion in Europe.

American nationalistic mythmaking. The first major war where railroads played a critical role was the war in Italy in 1859, where the French moved much larger forces, much quicker than any railroad move during the civil war.

I love Buchanan.Remember a lot of northern folk simply wanted to let the south go.No sane person ever wants war.Buchanan was instrumental in America purchasing Alaska.He built up our fleet.Buchanan never condemned any young men to death.His successor however did 600,000 of them.
@matthewhedrichjr.54457 ай бұрын
Stop loving Buchanan! He’s a stubborn, passive, and disgraceful American traitor for refusing to solve the slavery issue and help divide the nation by bullying the Supreme Court in ruling out the Dred Scott Decision. He never purchased Alaska. He also tried to buy Cuba and Kansas as slave states which nearly caused him to get impeached for this
