Practically, it's best to put a lightweight Linux/Unix on it. Try audio editing, music making, emulation, DOS games, very old Windows games, very basic video editing? Second part video idea? Third video idea of comparing original hardware to upgraded with same tests/benchmarks?

I picked one up in near mint condition for my 50001- always wanted the stand but couldn't justify $25-$35 for it back then. The stand also expands outwards to act as a holder for the external HDD case used in Japan. May still pick up the horizontal stand as well just because...

I had the PS2 HDD around 2006ish which supported FFXIV, Couple of Sim Games (for caching), couple of street fighter games, Resident Evil Outbreak File 1 and 2, NHL,NFL MLB 2k series games and I forgot a couple more... You can Google it and just find the PS2 HDD Wikipedia page...also the HDD got way more support in Japan BB Browser which allowed users to use the HDD for media playback of music, photos (from camera/USB stick), and video playback from downloads online. Sony setup a whole online ecosystem for game devs to deliver content online for people to browse, download and consume. You could surf the web, read online updates from game devs and also download full games/demos for play. Shame that never made it to the US but almost seemed as a be a beta test for PS3 PSN launch

That network adapter was useless until very smart people created the OPL system and then it became a must for PS2 owners, freeing you completely of the failing DVD readers (replacements are not exact match and have audio problems). The SATA conversion kit made it even better as almost all SATA HDDs and SDDs work with no issues on many games. BTW there are cloned native SATA PS2 network adapters, those are not good enough and cause audio problems hard to describe and even to detect for newbies but games music sounds rough like if a fine sand paper was inside your speaker making contact with the speaker cone

I have an R51 , upgraded memory from 256MB to 2GB, 20GB HD to 80GB. big difference in performance after the mem upgrade. Also I thought XP could run dos games ?

Now it's time to put FreeMcBoot on the memory card so you can install an ISO dumper/loader and emulators to the HDD. I've done it half a dozen times myself. My current model I had to cut out the underside of the bay to expand it because I needed a IDE to SATA converter and the one I bought lowered the drive, and I had to modify the adapter so the molex lined up properly, but I can put up to a 2TB sata drive in it currently. Edit: lol I typed this at the 14 minute mark. I should've waited 2 minutes.

The XBox came with a HDD as standard. I loved adding my own music to games like Project Gotham Racing. Didn't know that you had to buy an adapter to a HDD in the PS2.

I just bought the screensaver due to this video. I swear to God, last week I was thinking of old screensavers, and how they would work with multiple monitors, and on modern windows systems, and the week after, you release a video on it. I could not come up with the name it had, and whaddayaknow, you just dropped it in my lap, like the universe is just handing me things I need. i think you have to select (LAN) not isp connection if you just put a eth cable under a router and get dhcp information for ip etc.. then try... prob server are down however :)
