It is great to see a review which uses intelligent argument to make valid points.

Solid review. Got kind of into the weeds in the beginning by focusing too heavily on it's comparisons to other games which use rock /papper/scissors mechanics. This game is solid and still holds up in 2023.

I don't get to play codex often, but when I do, we draft. I know you said it doesn't work - sirlin says it's bad game design and not how the game should be played. But - I only have one copy of the game, so we both can't pick the same hero / spec. Drafting for Heroes/Spec works perfectly fine. Sure, you're only drafting 3 heroes, but I like the way it plays out. Kinda like League of Legends, but 3v3 instead of 5v5.

Would be cool to have an update for GoAII now that copies are being delivered.

COME ON Mark! You are NOT ok! Although I listen to you weekly based (Congrats for the BGG best podcast award) - I only wish more this kind of video reviews. If it is too much of an effort, than all is understood-able. But if it is something that is somehow possible - it will be MOST appreciated.. There are so many games that I wish you will put your spotlight on exactly at the same format, but even a few, once in a while - will be Awesome.

Great video, and - I obviously wish you do it more, But after all the years since this video published and all the 1v1 games since then - I REALLY wish you will do some videos regarding those games and/or that genre...

I've played it solo, 2p, and 3p. I think the most of the mechanics are designed to best work with many players on board, but the lengthy and complex rules makes it hard to gather a crew that is willing, and able, to learn all the rules. The rule reference card is nice for new players to look up the stats of certain creatures, but it only contains half of the information you need to play the game. It needs to include things like 'these are the things you can do during your turn' and 'these are the things you can do at any time', with snippets about cannibalizing, zombie creation, spawning etc. A good example would be how Arkham Horror Third Edition does it. I know, with the lengthy rules, this would be too much information for a small card, but I've found it necessary. I'm currently working on a supplementary reference card that has more valuable info. Also there are definitely too many dice rolls. In an effort to combat this I've 3D printed a spinning compass that lets you pick a random portal or adjacent tile. It does improve game experience a bit.

Great vid but I gotta admit "Roll a 6, win a cookie ridiculously hard mode" got me. Gosh I missed your vids. (is it too early to pledge for the PnP of Roll a 6? Paper cookies lack flavor but make up for it in fiber).

(Phrase 1a) Hi there! We thought you forgot us! Please do not abandon this platform like that for such a long time again! (..and I don't mean couple of weeks.) You love board games. We appreciate your thoughts, perspective, opinions, humor, and overall approach. Dear Mark, While nothing is taken for granted - You are invited to our KZbin feed MUCH more often. Do not hesitate to bring Walker with you, whenever such an execution is possible. - Couple of podcasts in a month is waaay far from being enough. Do not get me wrong: You are the main reason I'm here.. But once in a while, it might spice things up, after all - both of you together have that kind of frequency, that kind of flow, that kind of a sinergy and chemistry which might be missing at the performance of an individual.. ****** (Phrase 2) While I wish your channel will get more viral, I do hope that you don't let the number of views to determine your desire - if you should upload a video or not. If you have connections in the Dice Tower or other niches, consider using them to attract some crowd who's looking for high quality content.. (Maybe investing more at the visuals, background or shooting quality might be among other advices of professional KZbinrs.. - Not me though, who simply enjoy the content itself really..) ****** (Phrase 1b) ...Nonetheless, Isn't a small crowd who appreciated you - Better than a huge crowd who interested at more shallow channels about board gaming? ..or at least.. Isn't it something to comfort in? As long as you will manage to not disappear on us again like that again - That will be most appreciated... Cheers! P.S. Another suggestion: 'So wrong About agames' is an one hour podcast every couple of weeks. I challenge you to consider recording a solo episode, even a shorter one, every couple of weeks as well.. (At the "silent" weeks obviously)

Superb review Mark, Ra probably my favourite game. Once got the chance to play test a game at Knizia Towers back in the late 90’s when he lived near London. The fact I wasn’t invited back says more about me than him. Can’t remember what we “played” either.... ooh! Rolled a 6!

Great to see you're back! Just started listening to your podcast, which is quite excellent! Ra is one of the oldest games on my shelf and it is one of the only ones which never gets considered for sale when I go through a purge. It's just so good.

Late to the party with this game and seems all versions are quite hard to find now. Supposed to be a dice tree edition soon though, so ill likely get that one. Can we expect to see more of these video reviews from you?

It’s great to see this long form review site revived. I always learn some finely tuned arcana about games and/or game history. As predicted, I despaired at your table of contents for La Revolution, but am now curious about the Europa Universalis series. I can get some basic exposure to this design space, and figure out where and when to go deeper.
