I still ride my 2016 27.5" bike all the time. It's great for blue and single black trails. I'd argue it's better for flow trails than my 2023 29'er, which I use for steeper and gnarlier stuff, double blacks etc. Most good riders aren't obsessed with the latest and greatest thing, that's for the n00bs.

I have an S5 status that was a deal i could not turn down. It has Fox 38 and GX shifting. I am 6'1 and have always been a bit concerned it's a bit big but this video made me feel a heap better! One thing I did was to angle the seat down a little which has greatly improved climbing and gets my weight on the front whilst seated. Still, I am mulling getting an S4 Enduro instead! Thoughts??

It’s the head tube angle, the less slack the higher spring rate you would need.

Great vid and useful overview of bike development in the last two decades, thanks! Just bought this week a Whyte T129 S, on a whim not knowing much about them. I have a 2015 Whyte 805 which is like Trigger's broom (which any Brits out there will definitely get). So I'm familiar with the Whyte brand and that helped my purchase decision. Before I bestow some TLC on it and invest in some upgrades, I need to gen up on the model and confirm its model year. Cheers

They all could use regenerative power to charge the batteries. Eg every time you push down on suspension or seat post it charges the battery. Or just have the all powered from an e-bike battery 😊

its not the bike. its the rider. and so what i have to do more searching for a part if its older ITS GONNA HAPPEN TO ALL BIKES at some point my pipedream scion is almost 25 years old but its a steel frame and thats not "modern" or " aluminum" but steel frames are lighter and stronger i hate people who make videos about what bike is better because most of the time in these peoples minds is "well more expensive isss better since this fork with 0000.1% more travel and that OLD one doesn't therefor its TERRIBLE and utter GARBAGE"

My Dh bike is old. It's an Orange patriot 2004/05 model with 180 travel on front and 190 on the rear. I've changed the geometry . It's supposed to be 160mm travel on the front. The front wheel feels sketchy when i corner or it could be that i need a new front tire 😆

I've been riding the Intense 951 XC - 120 front & rear travel - which is great for the flow trials I regularly ride. The bike real playful and a blast to ride. Hard to beat these bikes for the money, carbon frame and quality suspension. As you mentioned the wheels are the most lack luster and would likely be the first upgrade. As others have mentioned, it is nice to have a lower cost of entry, but very capable bike.

I had a very clunky NX drivetrain on a brand new 2021 diamondback 3C I bought it in 2023 for around 3K came clunky. Took it to a bike shop. They said it was fine. Super disappointed for a brand new bike. Shifting was fine. But the derailleur was really bothering me. So I got a Kona honzo esd with shimano slx 12 speed in that drivetrain runs like butter

So I Have always ridden large frames - but when i bought my roscoe 8, I went with the recommendation of the shop and got a M/L. I am glad I did. I have ridden a friend's large and while the differences is sizing are not huge, the M/L feels way better. Definitely give the M frame a shot.

2:01 I don't get how that's possible, that's a 700$ price difference between both wheel sets, also Santa Cruz only offer the reserve wheels on the higher spec models

Die hard Shimano guy myself, but run SRAM stoppers on my fatbike because DOT still works in the -40's. And a bike wrench. SRAM aren't all bad. That said, learn all the little bleed tricks, de-gas the fluid, and learn how to rebuild the inevitably sticky pistons in the levers. The alloy ones online are cheap, and don't swell. And measure twice, cut hose once. Last time I wrecked (HARD), I blamed the geometry. LOL.
@EvansMTBSaga3 күн бұрын
Good tips man! Thank you. I've never heard of de-gassing the fluid. I still need to attempt a lever rebuild

I have a 2001 TREK 4500 Alpha that I bought new. So, yeah, it's old. But, then, so am I. At any rate, the bike's in better shape than I am - I've only had to replace the chain once and the tires a couple of times, new seat, new brake pads and new grips - otherwise in original condition. It has served me well.

Hahahaha...... Bentonville trails were basically designed for 29" wheels. Go to Whistler ( not the park) and ride 27.5 rims. You'll see why 27.5 is a deadly tool in the right hands. Tight trails and sharp transitions favor 27.5. 29" is great for going up "over" things - hence the mullet reality. 27.5 lets capable and aggressive riders pop over everything. Come to my neck of the woods and watch your ass get dusted by 70-year-old riders on fixies with 26" wheels riding Betasso. You think I jest. I don't.
