Also, do I need to add the jet dry to each cycle? My other dishwasher had a tank to fill then when low you only needed to add more jet dry.

Great video. I just bought a Bisch 800. But I don't see a red light on the floor. Does that need to be turned on some how. Out 800 does have a light on the door. No handle.

If it doesn’t dry the dishes, does that mean we have to dry them? I just bought one of these I hope not.
@Dad1987_10 ай бұрын
Of course it dries dishes. It also doesn’t melt them like other brands. You may find a small amount of water on the top of ringed plastics. Use the jet dry and you’ll be fine.

Only wanted to mention that the 800 series now has different options. They have added Crystal Dry which is now their recommended dry cycle.

We just ordered a Bosch 800 series and went back and forth between the 500 and 800. I liked that the 500 had the option to have the door pop open but thought it was odd that the 800 didn’t have that option. I saw people saying the drying was really good on the 800 so decided to take a chance on that model. Time will tell I guess. We are getting rid of our Samsung water wall model after dealing with horrible cleaning the entire time of owning it. Also the only cycle that worked was the 60min cycle. The rest didn’t function. The water inlet valve went bad. I replaced that myself. Then now the water wall pump died. It’s about 4 years old now. I looked up the most reliable brand and found most preferred Bosch so that’s what we went with. I’m tired of super high priced junk that breaks and/or under performs. I’m either going commercial appliances when we buy our new house or going to get an old set and completely refurbish the old school appliances that would run for 20 years.

What does the consumer report numbers refer to. Higher number better or worse. Also he states the 800 series or higher. Isn’t the 800 the highest?
@Dad1987_ Жыл бұрын
Consumer reports is a very objective measurement of performance and reliability. It would be wise to get a 1 month online subscription to Consumer Reports to compare the current models. The best CR rating is 100. Bosch also makes a Benchmark Series that has even more features.

SO helpful! I noticed a lot of the things you mentioned in comparing the KitchenAid & Bosch at Best Buy. The KA just felt much sturdier, and the spray arm was metal. The Bosch shelves felt loose and cheap when pulled out, with a cheap feeling plastic spray arm. But the cons you discussed regarding the KA are quite noteworthy, and I think I prefer the top rack better with Bosch. For those reasons I'll probably go with Bosch--IF I can find one! Thanks so much for this informative review.

European dishwasher manufacturers have sacrificed a lot of performance for eco standards and compliance with EU regulations regarding energy and water saving. This means, among other things, that heating elements are ditched in favour of passive drying techniques which take time. So for an American consumer who is used to their dishwasher simply firing up a heating coil and running a fan thus drying everything in a matter of minutes, these models rely on time, temperature differences between dishes and the inox tub plus innovations such as zeolite etc. This also means that if people are used to running short cycles they might experience very poor drying results because drying is the first thing that gets sacrificed with shorter cycles. And when the door pops open the program is far from over it just opens the door to help the drying process. Just have that in mind. If you buy an European model refrain from running very short cycles and be patient with the drying process. It will hardly be perfect, but in my humble opinion you're buying a dishwasher not dish dryer :) To each their own, of course, but for me the more important aspect is how well the dishwasher washes dishes and how reliable it is. Sure I do want dry dishes but I'm okay with wiping an occasional plate if that plate is clean :)

This is 3 years old. The new 800 series has “Crystal dry” now. Just be warned, if you buy this DW, be prepared for AT LEAST 2.5 hours on every cycle unless you choose speed 60. And yes, they really are virtually inaudible when running.

Is anyone else having a hard time finding the jet dry turbo rinse aid? Seems like it was discontinued maybe?
@richie2592 жыл бұрын
Do you *have* to use the pods though? I much prefer liquid detergent. We have a water softener, and it can use a lot less detergent. Pods seem wasteful.
@Dad1987_2 жыл бұрын
I believe the purpose of the pods is for a slow release during the wash cycle.

Thank you for the great detailed review of the dishwasher. We just had this dishwasher installed yesterday. Was wondering do you know if this model (SHPM78Z55SS) has the time light feature (where the remain wash time is projected on the floor)? Thank you again! Have a great day!
@Dad1987_2 жыл бұрын
The model in the video only has a red light that is projected when the machine is on. There is no way to see the remaining time. That would be a great feature!

You CANNOT choose speed 60 with crystal dry. I know cuz I’ve tried with my new 800 series. Dumb.

My 800 series I just got seems great ,only had it not quit a week, I’ve used speed 60 mostly , it INCLUDES the drying from what I see, i use rinse aid as suggested and I’m very happy with results. Dry dishes!!, I do have a water softener in my house would not be without it. I replaced a Maytag dishwasher that is 29 yrs old , was having issues with soap dispenser not always opening but I dealt with that for few yrs and was noisy but worked great. I assume water softener is what helped keep my appliances working well for yrs. BTW my Maytag is going to another young family to use for the remainder of its life, ( had no electronics to fail )😊

This dishwasher was great for two years, but I came to find out that the Crystal Dry system has a faulty part that breaks and causes leaks. It is the threaded nut located inside the cabinet near the back of the dishwasher that holds the Zeolite crystal container to the bottom of the unit. It cracks, allowing water to seep into the drying unit underneath. My vent fan is now full of water and the entire drying system will have to be replaced before I can operate the dishwasher again.

Oh gosh--that is a new one. Do you still have the unit? I am now contemplating on the Kitchen Aid

What do you do if the dishes are not coming out dry?
@Dad1987_2 жыл бұрын
Hi! This is a common problem with all machines that don’t use a drying element or fan. You can add rinse aid which will improve drying. You can also angle the items with edges so the water doesn’t pool in crevasses. However, you should know that if you wash a load of primarily plastics you will have a small amount of water on the lips of the Tupperware. This is a bit annoying. On the other hand, it’s minor and easy to live with. Plus Bosch won’t melt plastics on the bottom rack. And there are less pieces that can break (fan and heating/drying element.

How long do you think a dishwasher should take? Kitchen aide’s cycles range from 1.5 to 4 hours. Bosch also has a “speed 60”. Let me know if you’re aware of dishwashers giving a quality wash in under 45 mins

Question: We just got the 800 series and gave it a test run. My question what do you do if you open the dishwasher half way through the wash or dry cycle? Do you just close the door again or do you need to hit the start button before closing the door? Does it pick up where it left off in the cycle before you opened the door.
@Dad1987_2 жыл бұрын
That’s happens to us all the time! It’s so quiet, especially between actions. Press start and close it. It will resume where it left off.

while it's running, if you open it up, will you be able to see the remaining time on the indicator in the middle of the top bar?
@Dad1987_2 жыл бұрын
I just checked, and YES! the time ticks down and displays remaining time. It would be nice if the light on the floor was a pie chart that filled or decreased to indicate estimated remaining time.
