This is a trail and grass clearing parang. The tip is used for trail clearing and its seldom a full swing. Full swings cause deflection that means cots deep clean cuts. For axe type chopping i use the mini duku. I also wear leather gloves and arm lenght cut sleeves which i pack in the sheath at all times. Never pull, load and chock your parang anywhere past your cheek! Not gonna say this again. I put down the axe and hatch for this do all piece of equipment. The mini duku that is. For larger chopping i use a folding camp saw and a silky bigboy for cutting anything over 3 inches.

Wouldn't it matter also on how big you are as a person? If you are a 6'10 dude this is probably too small. If you are 5'6 on the other hand probably a good tool?

Unusual that the handle says "Gransfors Bruks" and the head says "Gransfors Bruk;" in 2023 mine has went back to "Bruk" vs "Bruks" on the handle. Anyone know what that was all about from the factory?

I recall almost every boy in Japan had this knife in the early 70s to sharpening pencils. Mechanized sharpeners were already available but that was a good lesson for the boys to learn how to use knives.

When you "pop it" never move the axe. Only move the wood. You dont want that motion and force on your axe.

The other condor parangs have a superior grind thickness and length. I tried this model and gave it away. It has no lower fine work edge

Very well said practical review. I appreciate it. I have one of these. It was the second I got after the Outdoor axe which I love as well. I really like mine for regular cooking in the house and camp cooking is very very handy as a knife with much more control and safe control. I love it to throw in bag don't even know its there. On the belt its short and light don't even know its there. I got a belt sheath from Treeman Knives in Michigan. I got the tooled one.

FYI: I bought the Szco high carbon Bowie on Amazon also. The literature on Amazon says it is 420HC steel which is not 1095. I read some other Szco literature that stated it was a D2 steel.

i have to run mine thru the belt sander every time i chop dead wood with it to fix the rolls and chips😂 still like it tho- recontoured the handle, cut the guard, and blued the blade

Also because the blade doesn’t lock and is 2.999 inches long, we can legally carry it in the UK as a utility knife for work if you open boxes or work in gardens, fishing, camping etc.

These are wonderful little knives - the handle is blued then coated steel, the reason the blade may be a little dull is because the curved blade touches the inside of the steel handle, dulling the edge slightly when closed

I just picked one up. Not shaving sharp, but okay for utility use. I wasn't surprised by that in a $25 knife. I expect it will respond well to the stone. Been carrying it for just a couple of days and it's already proven handy.

I bought two knives exactly like this one at a gunshow back in the early, early 2000's. They were made in Pakistan, had crappy if functional sheathes, and were literally $5 a piece. So I got one each for myself and a buddy. We were teenagers and spent our free time running through the woods hacking, slashing, and chopping our way to creekbeds and makeshift campsites. We used these, threw them, and beat the hell out of them. And all they ever did was ask for more. For the money, we loved them. It was nice to watch your video and take a walk down memory lane.

I bought this knife a few years ago bc it was on sale at a big box store. I’ve been using it as a hunting, camping, and general purpose knife on my homestead. This knife is really tough and holds up pretty well. Definitely one of my favorites.

I sent back the 1st one I received from Amazon, because the handle was too messed up. The 2nd one I received was 1_mm thicker. I measured it at 3.5mm to 4_mm (the spine thickness was not consistent).

I bought this knife in order to practice sharpening with my Work Sharp Ken Onion. Despite the fit and finish issues, this is a beastly knife for the money. It's full tang, when $300 Bowies aren't full tang. The blade is decently thick. Mine didn't come sharp, but it still destroyed a wooden pallet with no damage. I think I'm going to buy another, and make it a project knife.

I too have a GB Mini Hatchet made by the designer, and stamped LP, its a beautiful tool which fits perfectly in the hand and is a joy to own. Since buying my Mini Hatchet I have added a GB Wildlife Hatchet and Small Forest Axe and they're beautifully made tools. I saw an Old Jimbo video in which he demonstrated what could be achieved with a mini hatchet, and that was a real eye opener.

No, it's not. It's entirely different. This is more than likely production laminated steel. I don't which one they use, there is white paper #1, and #2, blue paper #1, #2, and super blue, made by Hitachi. I've been trying to get hold of super blue, but they don't like selling to Americans.

I actually bought one, and I'm not sure it's 420HC. It rusts too easily to be 420HC. I think it may actually be a true high carbon blade.
