Not a 100 but maybe 50. Brilliant acting all around; Irons most impressive. He should have been nominated for an Oscar. Margin Call as well.

For last two months I have been watching this clip again and again. there's something about the finesse in this movie clip and actors who played their roles so perfectly.

The way he said "if you've never seen this before" and "this is what the beginning of a firesale looks like." Gave a sense of normalcy to a once in several lifetimes situation. That would make it much easier to swallow.

I would've turned down the money and left the office. That was, once the market and economy rebound, I'll still be able to come back and resume my career as a stock broker, which is worth a lot more than a couple million bucks.

That was accurate trading lingo including the way they talked on phones. Last 25 sec was very nuanced. I'll explain to non-Wall Street people.... Will calls Sam to receive permission to sell 375 mix 30 at 63 (cents on the dollar). 375 mix 30 means $375 million mixture of fixed & variable 30-year mortgages. Sam wants 65 which is loss of 35 cents, this equates to loss of $131 million ($375 million x 0.35). Will bluffs/pressures his counterpart at Merrill Lynch by offering the bonds "Fill or kill" which means take it or leave it w/ no further negotiation. Risky bluff by Will, considering he could've missed his last chance of unloading the bonds. Sam would've gladly sold at 63 if not 65, the 2 cents equals $7.5 million. Very well scripted scene.

One of the most accurate detail in this scene is the report that you create as an analyst and the seniors and partners ignore in order to get the short version from you. I worked as a trainee on the exact same department (Risk Management) and they ALWAYS do this 🥲😅

Who's watching in 2025 ? No, it's not the line I see on different cult films or songs but 2025 is the year this starts once more. Saying banks are in difficulty is an understatement. They are catastrophically in the red. Whether you're a european or an american you may have realized how hard it is to get just a few thousand € or $ out of your account. Yes YOUR money, the one you trusted your bank to keep and get interest (which you don't or very little) and to givevit back when you need it as it was the case for decades or should I say since the banking system started. Now for instance (and this is true, swear to God), I have to wait a week minimum but mainly 10 days to get 2000€ (2000$ approx.) and the worse part is that the teller asks me why I need such a sum in notes. First of all it's none of their business and secondly itcshows how dire the situation in their industry is as 2000€ is nothing when compared to what they invest in the stockmarket. So I tell them that I'll say what I use it for when they tell me on what my money went on in the stockmarket. Secondly when I want to be cheeky I say that I love rolling naked in 10 and 20€ notes. They know I'm fooling around but that's not my problem. The thing is that it's simpler to either keep your cash at home in a safe place or to put it in gold inan even simpler place. 3000$ will buy you a one ounce gold coin (gold has gone up by 20% per annum on average in the last 20 years but the big advantage out of that 20% interest is the fact a one ounce gold coin takes up no place at all compared to the same amount in cash so it's extremely easy to conceal and also to sell if need be. Plus the banks and the government can't put their dirty hands on it which is also a big +. As I said, banks are in turmoil. Just look at their share price. It's plummeted on average by 90% since 2008. 300 banks are about to fail in the next year and like in Margin Call, the music is about to stop. The party is over or at least has been over for some time. Why do you think gold has gone up by 40% in the last year ? More you print more gold goes up it's a well known fact. And if you live in the US, no Donald Trump isn't going to help you or the economy. As one economist said before the US election "it doesn't matter who wins, they'll all spend that money. It's just that one will spend it on something else than the other candidate".

The sequence where Robertson subtly questions Peter’s qualifications, Peter gets needled and responds his full technical CV, Jared tries to force him to simplify, Peter responds by quoting his thesis title verbatim, and Jared perfectly synthesizes with “so you’re a rocket scientist” is just delicious. Dialogue nirvana.

In my mind, this is much less civilised discussion. However, just having Jeremy Irons on the room raises the average cultural level by an order of magnitude. His delivery is flawless and I love how he manipulates people "If I made you, how would you do it?" - he is using hypotheticals to take the burden of the shoulders of his employee who clearly disagrees for obvious reasons. Amazing.
