The strongest evidence is the Quran itself. Let's look at it closely. If you want to know what problem in physics is considered to be the most difficult and complex, you would ask top physicists. And you want to know what troubles mathematicians the most, you would ask top mathematicians. So, to know about the hardest problem or the biggest accomplishment in any particular field of knowledge you should ask top specialists in this field and it's not necessary for you to become an expert or even qualified specialist in this field by yourself. With this simple idea in mind lets look at the Quran. Allah challenges all of humanity to produce at least a surah like it, which is primarily a challenge in field of arabic literature. Now, who are top experts of all time in a classical arabic language? It were poets of pre-islamic era. Poetry was everything in arab society of that times, it's almost impossible nowdays to imagine how valuable a good poet was to tribe. And how did these poets react to the Quran? A book, supposedly crafted by an illiterate man, who never ever in his life was known for any poetry prior to revelation? They accepted Islam. Many of them, including most prominent around them. They recognized that a human being cannot write such book. No way. But what about those who did not accept Islam? Maybe, they were more skillfull and were eager to beat the challenge set by Allah? No. They didn't even try seriously, but what they did try is to write poetry against Prophet Muhammad, salallahu alayhi wassalam. But why they didn't try to beat the actual challenge to totally dismiss this new religion that troubled them? It would've been much more effective. But they knew, that they are not up to the task and it's impossible to beat Quran. And this challenge is out there till our time. Go, learn classical arabic, produce a surah like one of the Quran. But you don't need to, because top of top experts is classical arabic already had failed. And thus, Quran stand till this day as living and simple proof for Islam.
