We're you not supposed to do the bedding and put the worms in the second try and use the bottom try to collect the tea?

Did the beans end up doing well from Soil blocks? I have been direct sowing but animals (presumably birds) keep eating the sprouts and I'm only getting like 10% of plants that make it. I assumed that the main root might be too long for soil blocks but I'm going to try it with my Yard long beans.

Springtails. Just another decomposer. They won't leave the bin even if indoors. It's a rotting environment and many other organisms will populate it, but prefer the moist environment to the desert of your house.

I kinda just use one layer and bury the food in with them there. I think they rather move up than down, without a wet carboard on the top they used to never eat on the surface, so I don't have enough trust to put the food on the top as is to rot uncovered.

Yes, it would be great to see an update on the harvest especially. I have a Can o' Worms, a Worm Café and several other tote systems and I harvest them in similar ways. I feed consistently in one area, then just pull all the castings from the other area (usually 50-80% of the castings come out). There will be worms in those castings and cocoons, of course. I put the harvested castings in a separate tote and start ageing them out to allow the cocoons to hatch. I then bait worms every few weeks out of that material until I am satisfied all the cocoons have hatched and I have most of the worms. If you're in a rush, you won't get them all! If you're not in a rush, there's a chance you will get them all. Good luck!

Hello, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 I've had a Can-O-Worms since July of 2009. I have mine in my house and it stays clean and I've never had a bug problem. I started with 2,000 Red Wigglers and I harvest almost monthly. We feed it our coffee grounds, banana peel and strawberry tops every morning and mailing papers. It's certainly saved on what is thrown away. In September of 2020 I started a KZbin channel called Peggy Helbling's Garden What You've Got I cover Worms and Garden tips, using what you have. Frugal is good 👍 BTW, my legs are still intact and the lid never blows off. The advantages of keeping it inside 👩‍🌾👍🪱💓🪱 PS. The liquid that drains out is called Leachate. If you take Castings and rainwater and molasses and put them in the bucket with an aerator that liquid is called Worm Tea. I was sternly corrected by a youngish college student that I needed to learn proper terms 😅 I've been using Leachate since I got this bin and my plants love it. Happy Gardening and it looks like you have a lovely channel. Are you in Australia?

I realize this video is old but it's important to mention that where you setup the worm bedding and worms themselves is actually the collection tray to collect the liquid gold, or liquid worm castings. The worm bedding and worms should be on the first tray above this, likewise that cardboard circle should also go in the tray.

I’ve worked out some things about my advance and you’re doing it all wrong you don’t put food in the next layer can you put the food on the first layer with the worms and then once they’re done fertilising that liar you put coconut husk into the next layer and then put food in it and then they come up and start on that

@@kostaleotta8854 Sphagnum is a genus of approximately 380 accepted species[2] of mosses, commonly known as "peat moss". Accumulations of Sphagnum can store water, since both living and dead plants can hold large quantities of water inside their cells; plants may hold 16 to 26 times as much water as their dry weight, depending on the species.[3] The empty cells help retain water in drier conditions.
