Hi! I'm guessing I could use something like this to delay a second electric fan? What I would want is to have two fans connected to the same thermal switch, but not having them to start at the same time, not to have too high of an amp draw at that given moment. If the first one would start at the right temp I think it'd suffice for the second one to start 5s later. Any ideas? Thanks!

You could do that with the delay timer being started by the first fan, then however long later you set the timer, it could energize the 2nd one. Thanks for taking the time to follow along!

Me too but you can do it. Just don't let the drill bit walk when you start so a center punch is a good thing to use. Put the headgasket on he head to mark the punch holes before anything, or that is what I did. I used it as a "template" for where to drill.

Thanks, I just wanted to show that you didn't have to have a machine shop do the work. A jig for the head and a DRILL PRESS would have made the work A LOT FASTER, but the hand drill works and the motor has 5k on it now and runs very good. The heads are on my son's 1986 Z28 that has my 400 SBC in it and they work very well. I wish I had bought the 210cc instead of the 180cc runner model is all. Flotek is a good American company and I would buy their heads again. Probably would upgrade to hi pressure springs, for those interested.

Hey bud, best way I found with these is to shut the valve and time how long it takes to lose that vacuum. If valve stem seals arent in you can put temporary ones in using a bit of latex tubing cut and slipped over the valve and valve guide. Nice work.
@pumphodl9540
@pumphodl9540 4 ай бұрын
Reason is because these vacuum pumps are powerful they can pull a decent vac on a leaky valve! The pro ones use very small CFM so no need to isolate. But with a pump like this you want to be shutting that valve I think so you can isolate the pump from the system.
@martywilsonwilsonenginesho7940
@martywilsonwilsonenginesho7940 4 ай бұрын
Yeah I played around like that too but didn't really "time" them. It was interesting and FUN to check my work. I posted a before and after picture of the #2 cylinders exhaust valves when I got finished with the video and gained 2" of vacuum just lapping a little more. The leak down you are talking about is a good test of the wear of the guides and any bad valve stem seals, which were old on that head. I appreciate the tip and thanks for just tagging along this adventure that seems to repeat itself because I drive pretty dam hard but know who to blame. 😊👍 Also, I intentionally got THE CHEAPEST, LOWEST CFM pump I could find for this experiment. It will double as my vacuum pump for my personal a/c jobs that I have been using a venturi style pneumatic pump for. 😎

I bet a clutch or TC weighs more than that. It's the same thing that I told my son when he was listening to this video. The 350 isn't a high compression motor, just dished 350 pistons with 64cc 1970 Corvette heads and UNLOADED (not on a Dyno) so it's definitely going to rev super snappy. It's just a breakin stand (but boy I wish I could afford a Dyno room!) 😂 The 400 is a dished piston engine also. She runs real good in that heavy car (3650 lb).

The issue is the MOTOR OIL used during Break In fellows. Also, if you can, like I did, have your camshaft NITRIDED for an additional $150 from Comp. That, along with a good break in oil with a GOOD AMOUNT of ZZDP (and/or the addition of ZZDP Additive like Rislone makes and I use) will get the cam broken in without issues. Modern engine oils have been stripped of Zink and Phosphorus that help "lube" and protect the cam lobe surfaces from premature wear during the critical first 15-20 minutes of running. Also, you must bring your engine up to at least 2000 rpm so that the lifters will spin and wear evenly. I have had a Comp Cam go flat once (it is about the only brand I use on SBC's). They replaced the cam and the lifters for me and that's when I started having them Nitrided and using additional ZZDP for the break in period. Pops

Yes sir, if I had that cam in a little 283, it would sound like, well.....a 283 with a HUGE CAM in it. It would be much more "rowdy" sounding in a smaller CID motor. Thanks for the comment! We are taking the SBC 400 Z28 to the track TOMORROW for Test N Tune. I'll report back on how that car does. It's best ET with my 770 Holley and an Accel Distributor on that motor/car was a 13.4 but my son has Holleys Sniper EFI on it now and we are "expecting" to see some gains. Thanks for watching! Pops

Specs for the cam are below. Its VERY responsive! www.compcams.com/xr288hr

I appreciate your input, new engine builders need to know that. I've built these since 1978 and now have to add ZZDP additive to my breakin oil or have my cams Nitrided. This is a roller lifter (and rocker) motor so the breakin tomorrow will be for the bearings, my rings breakin immediately. This motor, like my others, never smoked at all on start up, thank goodness.
