Breaching Humpback Whales mesmerize me! Humanity MUST preserve all of our whales. Do you realize, that after whaling, Blue Whales population decreased to only 2% remaining, 2%!!! 💔😢

Not hard to see how tales of sea serpents came to be. Unless they really were real at the time, in which case their bones are down there

All whales breach, but Humpback Whales like this one, seem to be photographed or videographed the most. They've been my favorite whales for a vert long time, with Beluga Whales in a very close second place. I guess it's their size that has endeared them to me. Blue Whales are the largest mammals on the planet, but spotting them isn't as often as Humpbacks are. Females are larger than males, and they are very attentive mothers. No one knows exactly why Whales breach. Is it a form of communication with other whales? Are they attempting to dislodge barnacles, parasites, or other ocean pests that benefit themselves by attaching to humpbacks bodies. Humpback whales have been known to protect human beings from random sharks hunting for something or someone to eat. Humpback whales have shown altruistic behavior toward human beings multiple times. They have also sought help from humans when they have become entangled in illegal fishing nets, ropes, or large fishing hooks. They face many dangers from humans, either indirectly or directly from human activities. They have died after being hit by large cargo shipping vessels, suffer and die from the effects of submarine radar signals, offshore oil rigs, underwater exploration explosions, commercial fishing boats, human trash dumping in the oceans, and Japanese whale killing ships.

Vi um vídeo fantástico (!!) destes seres maravilhosos a proteger uma foca de baleias assassinas. O que até é estranho pois elas mesmas podem ser predadas pelas orcas.

Absolutely incredible. The size of these creatures just amazes me. Fascinating how something that massive can exist eating only tiny krill. I know whales eat millions of them at a time, but still. Wow.

And to think some of the leviathans of the Triassic (giant ichthyosaurs) could have reached twice that size just as subadults!
