Stanford needs to do a better job of recording these performances. Have several angles, not just a long distance shot. And have a solo mic! It’s the 21st century. This fine young cellist deserves better.

Indeed. The occasional suggestion of William Walton there too, I would have thought. And the jolly piccolo passages made me momentarily suspect that Hindemith had offered Burgess a stein of beer.

Very Higdon. All the instruments talk all at once in her orchestration, like a continuous din of group conversation. Could use more changes of texture though there are a few quiet moments, but even these could be more spare and transparent in their overpacked sound and busy instrumentation.

This is an interesting piece. It perfectly captures the depressing nothingness of a grey winter sky. The orchestra did a real nice job of trying to sell the piece to the audience. Now I will go and listen to Nuages.

Amazing sound engineering. Probably the best orchestral sound I’ve heard on KZbin. All the instruments are individually audible. Superb tone from the instrumentalists. Questionable decision making by the conductor. The gagliarda had saltarello sections are waaaayyy too slow.
