Why does he feel the need to sing the song differently from the original? It's always for the worst. Nowadays I actually prefer Gary singing it, as he wrote the song as well.

Because it would be boring for him and the audience to just repeat the song note for note. It wasn't "for the worst", it was a different version, just as good as the original. Maybe you should just listen to the albums and not live performances.

Nothing wrong with that song and performance... Buried my best friend two days ago and he choose that song to remember him by that day. Good choice...had a difficult time to hold it together..
