I can say with full confidence that Shadowbringers is one of the greatest stories ever told in ANY medium. Such an amazing villain, so layered, so complex, the underlying depression of it all, the fact that you both must come to blows is genius. Both of your motivations are valid, which makes him an amazing villain.

Also of note, Emet-Selch created Azem's crystal *after* the sundering. "Though the world be sundered and our souls set adrift, where you walk, my dearest friend, fate shall surely follow." I think Emet-Selch was searching not for the means to reunite the shards but searching for Azem's reflections. That's why he took such long periods of rest while Lahabrea and Elidibus did not...he searched a timeline, found nothing, went to sleep, keeping up the charade until suddenly here we are, on two separate shards at roughly the same time no less.

7:08 this part of the cutscene is a testament to just how good ff14 is with the presentation of it's story and cutscenes. The crystal protecting you, the echoing ancient voice finally confirming that we ARE Azem, the invocation activating and above all else To The Edge kicking in over YOU framing you as the boss. ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!

The saddest part is when he said "My heart's sole desire is a world free of sorrow." he actually meant it, but HIS world is Etheirys which is long gone and forgotten While OUR world is The Source and The First which we protect them with our life.

I think that line is a great summary of his motivations since the Ancient times. He was the Emissary, who did his all to ensure harmony on the star. He left Zodiark because there were disagreements that he had to solve. All this he did so that the people of Etheirys could know peace. And in this cutscene, to him a world without sorrow means a world where no one needs to suffer for mortal reasons. He genuinely thinks that he is doing this all for the good of future mankind, destroying this unperfect world so that some reason of humanity can live in the paradise he envisions (of course we now know that the Ancients had problems, but Elidibus has lost his real memory of Amaurot.) And that corruption of such an altruistic wish is what makes the character so memorable for me.

The part I will love about this fight forever is how even in normal mode, you need a full tank LB3 to survive his LB4. He's throwing everything at you. You must respond in kind, or die.
