It's nice you took the time to show your studio ... after 9 years US Army including my combat tour, Vietnam (2/502 Infantry, 101st Airborne) I was asked to come to Australia to teach airbrush techniques. This from a time of NO adobe Photo shop, as airbrush retouch EVERYTHING PRINTED from catalogs, to wedding photos. When I saw your jet aircraft images, I remember my phone conversations all those years ago with Drew, long before "Air Brush Action". I was surprised to see a Jun air as I was their service agent here in Sydney ... till this day I still have a couple of them, plus back in 1990 Sparmax came to me with their new silent compressor. Some years later Iwata put their name on it (actually a sticker) and upped the price another $120 ... LOL. Many art shops I worked with had CO2 for their airbrush stations. I also remember when createx hit the market, as it sold only T-shirt paint... I think it was Pat Gains who told me about them as I only did illustration and Fine art work back then. For retouch work we use "Doc Martin" brand and there were companies that made 7 shades of gray, and 7 shades of sepia pan water colors ... I so wish I could get them. Thanks. I was sad that Olympus closed, though Iwata produced a fair amount of their brushes under license, even the "Micron". in the 60's to the late 70's I used Thayer Chandler, plus I still have 3 Paasche AB turbo's. Lately Iwata bought out Sparmax brand, but you can still buy the newer Sparmax brushes like the SP-35 ... be safe.. I've lost most of my VN Veteran friends to Dioxin poisoning (agent orange) as I did a lot of war illustrations for text books both ere in Oz and the USA (Vietnam Veterans Arts Group in Chicago).

I thank you for your service and I'm so sorry about the loss of so many of your veteran friends. It sounds like you go way back with the airbrush for sure. Hi Mark, thank you for the wonderful compliment and also for checking up on my eye surgery. Everything went really well with both surgeries. I am experiencing stinging and some pain in my right eye, that one has a permanent retina problem which can't be corrected. The surgery did let in a lot of light, which is really great. You're welcome Nick, thanks for the feedback. I've worked with candies when I was doing some helmets and automotive stuff back in the day, but they were urethanes. I didn't want to use that paint for health reasons, it wasn't safe. The water based paints are fantastic and have come a long way. I am interested in working with them on different projects. Createx is a great company and I'm looking forward to trying them out on a different style of painting than what I'm doing now, it should be fun!

I just discovered your channel and enjoying your great vids/tutorials. I’m looking for info on how to start airbrushing bg’s with watercolor. I can’t see from here how you change your paint colors? Also how do you get the 2 colors to overlap without a hard edge drying from the first application (as it would in wc when painting wet-on-dry) or does that not happen when airbrushing as it would when painting with a brush? I’d like to buy a quality one that could also allow me to do fine details such as perhaps wispy spider-like webs maybe. Recommendations on a specific airbrush to buy? Thank you! Oh coming back to edit to say I did see that one quick glimpse of you pouring in the other color but you mention changing out multiple guns so does one need a gun for each of the various colors one might be using?

What base color would you say is the best to make lightning look most realistic?
@imagineairbrushbillsnegon11 ай бұрын
I always look at my reference photo for color matches. If you have a close up of the lightning you should be able to see what's going on. The main bolt usually looks white. The sky colors will also affect the many streaks in the atmosphere.

can i use black heavy paper sheet .. i have tried couple of space scenes but did them on black sheet .. is there any magical technical differene in both methods ? like does white behave different on a black sheet than a white sheet than has been based black ? i guess its a silly question. but it would be great if u could clear that.

What film do you use to stencil out? You put it on and then cut around it ?
@imagineairbrushbillsnegon Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, I'm using a frisket film, It has a satin finish. I put a whole sheet over the drawing and carefully smooth it out. Once it's applied I use an x-acto knife to carefully cut along all the lines, this allows me to take out different sections to paint.

Sounds like you run a high psi on the micron, can I ask what psi you do use.
@imagineairbrushbillsnegon Жыл бұрын
I usually run it at approximately 20 psi. I'm using a mac valve so I adjusted it a number of times during the video. I'm also having a problem with my needle hanging up near the trigger, it's not moving the paint that well. It's time for some repairs.
