Thank you. Question.... Can't blue roquet the yellow on its turn with any of these moves? Wouldn't It be better to simply roquet your partner ball and not do any of these things in this situation? Sorry if I'm ignorant I'm VERY (2 days) in to my learning the rules. Have been playing by usca rules 9 wicket. Also, I cannot find an answer ANYWHERE about what happens if a ball is underneath the wicket/hoop. Is it now "-wicketed", does it lose its turn and if hit (roqueted?)does the ball that struck it not only lose its ability to gain extra shots or croquet? But even more than that, lost its thirty pturn and be moved. Ack to starting position? Someone said Todd pthis to me today and I think they are incorrect however Tyner made a big stink when I att3mot3d to find the rule. Arghhhh. Thank you again!

Q. Can't blue roquet the yellow on its turn with any of these moves? A. Yes it can, however after blue roquet's yellow then it is red's turn and red will run the hoop. Also, if yellow does the block close to blue then blue may risk doing a double tap should it try to roquet yellow. Q. Wouldn't It be better to simply roquet your partner ball and not do any of these things in this situation? A. I assume you mean that blue roquet's black. Yes they could, so long as either ball does not go past 1/2 way to the next hoop. If say black goes past 1/2 way AND red runs the hoop then black will be off side and could be sent to one of the penalty spots for their next shot. I cant help you about 9 wicket US game. In Golf Croquet (and I assume US 9 wicket) a ball must pass through from the correct direction and be fully through when viewed across the posts on the players side. ie you should be able to slide a piece of string down on the playing side of the hoop and not touch the ball. It does NOT have to be fully through when looking across the downstream side of the hoop.

I bought my PFC mallet 3 years ago. Immediately had to back off my power by I estimate 30% which resulted in greater accuracy. After a month a went back to my old mallet just to compare and there is no comparison. I've lent my mallet to others to try, and we now have quite a few in the club. Every bit as good as Peter says in the video.

Thanks. Peter certainly makes very good quality mallets, but just like good quality golf clubs or fishing reels, your performance and results are not guaranteed!! That takes practice and determination.

Safest but not 100% guaranteed but about 90% would be stop shot on blue. Clear blue. Yellow sits in a hoop running position. Black clears red. Yellow to play and runs hoop. Snuggling or cuddling blue is fraught with problems one being you have to judge the distance, that the court surface does not alter the speed or settling of yellow and there is the possibility of a dispute, double tap of blue. The video doesn’t explain which hoop we are talking about. Hoops 1, 3, 7, 9 and 13 have lower rates of success due to close vicinity of boundary.
@harufy4510 ай бұрын
Hi David, the intent of the video was simply to explain blocking. I deliberately made no mention of clearing, which hoop was involved or best strategy so the video was kept as simple as possible. (KISS)

I always prefer to hinder or block rather than clear. A good block shot leaves no chance for the opponent. Thanks for the clear explanation and the excellent graphics.

Hi Robert, many thanks for your comment. Much appreciated. Agree that a good block really stuffs up an opponents options, particularly close to them as they risk double taps and cant jump. Swearing is often their only option.

After playing for a number of seasons, I found this video very helpful in confirming some of the things I have worked out and coach Juniors to do, but also picked up a few tips that will change the way I play / caused me to think - jawsing every odd hoop for instance. Not criticizing but trying to offer help for the future, as somebody that does a lot of video work, can I please ask why someone put music behind this video? It let the video down terribly and was a big distraction - particularly for someone like me with a hearing disability... Also it was hard to see what was being demonstrated at one stage because of the caption background. Just use a contrasting colour to the grass colour like white or yellow and forget the caption background. Thanks heaps for a very great video! I learnt more from this than sessions weʻve had with world class players / coaches running sessions at our club

Hi, many thanks for the feedback. I made the video and added the music as soft as possible to fill in any gaps. I thought it was barely audible and one viewer even asked if I had added it. I had hells own trouble with wind and background noise and had pretty much written off ever being able to edit the video to something useful. This site was the only one where I could make the audio anywhere near useful noisereducer.media.io/speech-enhancement As you make videos you may find it of use at times.

@@harufy45 I use Final Cut Pro, a fairly professional piece of software which has amazing tools built in to reduce noise and can even alter where the sound is coming from. So if you are recording from the back of the room, you can alter the ʻsound shapeʻ of the room so that the main sound is coming from the front where the speaker is talking. Its quite amazing. Cheers. Have put a lot of our members on to your videos as they are so helpful for that ʻnext levelʻ of strategy and thinking, after learning the basics of the game! Thanks for replying

@@redbeard4518 do you have any links to croquet videos you've made?

@@harufy45 No Sorry. I may have misled you. I have taught videography in a university setting to tertiary students for a number of years in the past, but most of the video work I have done has been weddings / historical stuff / interviews / education settings etc. The only croquet video I have made is a short little video of a group of 4 club members I asked to start a game and play a couple of hoops specifically to use to introduce older Juniors in Primary Schools to GC - although I have subsequently used it and a similar animation to what you make, to introduce organizations / businesses etc, coming down for a ʻhave a go session to GC. (There is no great production quality in this video :-(... I find that spending 5 -7 mins showing these at the start of a session in the club rooms makes it very easy for new players to go out and start playing the game.

Excellent work. We all know that this is an area of great confusion. It is vital that the rule changes are explained with demonstrations. The one confusion not made clear in the animation is that in a penalty area continuation "All balls are sent to the area." I have subscribed for more great work.

Hi, thank you for your comments they are much appreciated. Your suggestion of a video about the rules is a very good one and something I will think about. I'm currently (slowly) making a video explaining how to play Ricochet Croquet. In the meantime you might like to have a look at our clubs website as there are some links to videos that explain double taps etc. sites.google.com/site/torontocroquetclub/videos-tutorials or simply go to www.tinyurl.com/torontocc and then click the Videos & Tutorials link at the top of the page. There is also a video there on How to Play Golf Croquet that I also made.

Great introduction! Just thought i'd point something out, and perhaps its different in various parts of the world but in England the Red hoop is located at hoop 5 rather than 3.
@harufy456 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments. Yes the Association players have the red hoop at hoop 5 as I think that's their finishing hoop. I'm guessing that in GC its at hoop 3 as that's our 'finishing' hoop if we play hoop 13. Sometimes its an AC player that sets up the court and we occasionally find the red hoop at hoop 5.

Great video Keith, congratulations. It may help if the notes explain your comment "opposition ball" ie red and yellow are one team verses black and blue, and that playing singles (2 players, one having red and yellow the other blue and black) is also possible.
