The juries are not ruining Eurovision. Since there is no jury in the semi-finals, the songs that are judged are eliminated. In the finals, the juries vote for certain songs. That's the point. If the jury returned to the semi-finals, this wouldn't be a problem. The public vote is what is ruining Eurovision. A lot of troll songs are making it to the finals.

I have so many concerns about juries. They prefer english songs over other languages and pop songs over out the box songs. I had to remember that In the past I hated the dispora voting in the televote. No way german public could vote always in Turkiye. But now I agree more with the televote than to the juries.

You forgot to mention there were jury wildcards in 2008 & 2009. Tamara was NOT 8th in the televote. She was 12th. Juries have a bias against Slavic languages (except Ukrainian) That's why Serbia or Slovenia aren't doing well with them. Had Proud been in Macedonian, it probably wouldn't have won the jury vote. Juries prefer Romance languages, which is why France did so well in 2021 & last year. Trenulețul was actually in Romanian. There's no Moldovan language. Tbh, the radio-friendly criteria has always been stupid. Why should it matter if a song is radio-friendly? I've heard all but one ESC winner since 2019 on the radio or elsewhere anyway. And from my country, Rockstars and Always on the run (one finished last, one 12th) They seem to have removed this criteria in 2023, apparently.

A few points: 1) juries are looking other things as well, not just a song (such as performance). Therefore for example choreographers or creative directors can be important add to jury. Also we can’t forget that Eurovision is a TV show. Therefore we need TV people in the jury. 2) If jury would be bigger than 5 people, basic pop would do even better than before. Instead the jury needs to be more diverse. 3) I didn’t really get the point about objectivity? If all the balkan countries would have given 12 to Croatia because Rim Tim Tagi Dim did well in Balkan area before the contest, wouldn’t it have shown bias instead of objectivity and it would have been a new reason to question jury’s objectivity. 4) Well, i prefer international jury in national finals over national juries because national juries can show bias towards certain artists because they have personal ties to them (this was seen for example in UMK 2016 and Poland’s NF in 2023) This rarely happens with international juries.
@SHAUUNZERS6 күн бұрын
I’m not sure if you really listened carefully to the points made - but I will explain them for you again. 1) Performance, staging, camerawork etc. They are ADDITIONS to the thing we judge - which is the song. They help or hinder, they are not what is being judged. Five people who have a priviledge in influencing the result of a SONG contest more effectively need to be music industry professionals not media professionals. If your point made sense, Eurovision wouldn’t have such insecurity by calling them what they are, but instead they call them music industry professionals - which they are not. 2) No evidence or logic in that 3) Listen carefully to the segment 4) Just because you prefer it doesn’t make it right. International juries can be easily manipulated almost more than local ones. You mention UMK and Poland, I’ll mention all the MESC finals from 2011 till 2018. Mostly international juries - all manipulated.
@PANUPEKKASAMUEL6 күн бұрын
@@SHAUUNZERS I think there is very much logic in my 2nd point. Let’s say there’s 20 people in the jury and we have a alternative song competing (like for example cha cha cha which was not liked by a lot of jurors). It is safe to assume with more jurors, it would have been blanked more times -> less points from the jury. With current 5 member juries if one juror likes a song a lot and puts it 1st, it still might get at least 1 point even if rest would tank it.

Not only does Google translate exist, but ESC does provide (official) English translations of the lyrics of non-English language songs (and iirc there used to be more translations way back), so the jury members not voting songs sung in languages they don't understand is even less valid.

What I've noticed for a few years now is that in the final of the Junior ESC almost only men (mostly from the LGBTQ+ scene) can be seen on TV as viewers in the venue. It's supposed to be a show for children and families. Then where are these spectators in the hall? Things used to be different - there were so many children as spectators (with their families).
@muddyfeet6925 күн бұрын
I prefer JESC over the ESC because it is not toxic as the adults contest. I think the kids & teens deserved their own contest. This is their chance to show their talent to a wide audience in Europe. Main thing is, that they meet kids from other countries and build friendship.

About the NF rule, there were 9/17 countries who did national finals in 2024 (🇦🇱🇪🇪🇬🇪🇩🇪🇮🇪🇲🇹🇳🇱🇵🇱🇺🇦) and 2 other countries internally selected their artists since they won The Voice Kids in their respective countries (🇮🇹🇵🇹 and 🇬🇧 when they still competed) which leaves 6 countries who did a proper internal selection. For a kids contest I would say that I prefer NFs because they give everyone in the nation who wants to compete a fair chance.

The jury vote complaint just seems very "I don't agree with the result" and brings down your overall argument, maybe it would be a better change if children entirely decided those results though- no matter how professional the musicians in juries are, their taste is still entirely subjective though and we have to accept that a song can landslide with them. The online vote does need heavily reforming- I definitely agree it should go back to each individual country casting points so it has a fair chance to influence the results in the same way as the juries, maybe this should still be an online vote though because SMS/phone figures being so low in 2015 was why they scrapped it originally. My personal observation is that Georgia particularly has suffered from the online voting a lot- if voting for your own country was banned and it was a normal format, I actually think they would've gained more points in this year's televote.

I totally agree with what you mostly said, as someone who is 14 years old and always wanted to participate for ever, I never had a chance because the way my country does it (which is Serbia) they always pick the participant through the intern call, and I have always heard that even though you're song may be great, it would maybe not be chosen because you are not a kid from a family that has connections with the national broadcaster and we never had a national final for JESC ever, I think maybe in the early 2000s once, but technically didnt. Also Serbia decided to withdrew and we have not participated since 2022 and they say the reason is money, which is 100 percent false, because it was said they ended up going over the budget for ESC, which means they have even more than enough. I also think if some countries who think they will have a hard time getting good results in the adult contest they should switch to compete in JESC because, the budget is really not as much as for the adult contest and because junior eurovision gives more opportunity for other countries to win, it would have been a really good idea (this is also what I think Serbia should have done, instead of investing more for ESC bc they is rlly no point, we are just not as good as we used to be)and I hope of course that the number of the countries competing will increase and the national final will be a pernament rule to how the artist gets chosen, but for now we will hope for the best, and even though I may have not got the chance, I hope that my country will come back and give a chance to a kid that really deserves it in the future:)

Whilst I do encourage the ideas proposed there are a lot of caviats: Make the preformers part of the songwriting proces: This is tricky to do, because afaik, local and European regulations prohibit this to some degree. I do not know the complete details on this. Though I do agree with this point Language rules: Agree, but only on the account of either removing it entirely, since it is not in place in regular esc and it doens't really make a difference anymore, or making it so that it needs to be fully song in an official language. national Finals: Too expansive… the fees for JESC might be lower, but this is still way too much effort. and might then actually cost more than regular ESC Age Restrictions: Yup Jury Voting: For Junior Eurovision I always found it weird there was one anyway. Online Voting: Yes, but children calling in or texting for an artist feels: 1. Disjointed with the current generation of young children whom are the target audience 2. Weird, because of the money aspect. Knowing how manipulative mobile games can be, this would raise some eyebrows from overportective parents at least. 3. Like you're therefor limiting the amount of children who can actually vote. Time slot: Whilst I do agree again, this is also tricky because of local rules about protecting children from 'working' after a certain time. If a show ends after this 'curfew' than they might be in some legal problems. Press Coverage: A VERY specific code of conduct… Leave no room for ambiguity. Which the EBU is not really known for.
