for the iPod, you can use email only, not the phone number like iPhone. Go to Settings > FaceTime, use apple ID, type in your email.

I used the one in Red with 256GB of Storage for 3 years from Launch day all the way until it was discontinued. Then, I upgraded to an iPhone SE 3, also in Red and 256GB. Still using it! But I may upgrade to the iPhone SE 4 when that comes out.

It's simply gone way past it's due date, even an iPad 4 nowadays will last you 4 months longer at the most. By November, the iPad 2/3/4's will be vintage devices, and shouldnt be used normally.
