I do have a question. About Borrowing tolerances if you make a Hyperbolic wind turbine that need to spend in 100 Mile an Hour winds would you 3d print it in metal or in a strong plastic what Kind of tolerance is would you borrow

As a fellow tape enthusiast I have to add a few of my own favorite tapes. Rubber splicing tape: this is actually what you called self fusing silicone tape, both exist but the actual silicone stuff is pretty crap compared to the rubber splicing tape except when you need very high temps. Teflon film tape: Available in both pure teflon with a silicone adhesive so very high temp all around and also with fiberglass reinforcement, reasonably affordable if you buy it on aliexpress or similar, of course high temp, low friction, resistant to all the chemicals, often called "millionaire's tape" because the name brand stuff can be silly expensive UHMWPE tape: sold as "drawer slider tape" so you can make anything low friction and somewhat wear resistant if used correctly EMI shielding tape: very fine metal fabric with adhesive, pretty niche use but handy sometimes as it's better in some ways than aluminum or copper foil tape.

I use hot glue for my moisture protection. It covers quickly and well, and isn't hot enough to screw up anything. The clay looks like it would work, I just think it takes too long. Hit glue is much faster.

To my knowledge shipping tape is pretty much always polypropylene. Strapping tape (with the fibers going down the length) is usually the same. The adhesives might be different, I'm not sure about those. Gaffer tape is definitely the most versatile for me though. Microcenter sells Savage brand and it's pretty good, though they sell it in medium green (for green screens) and black. If for some reason you enjoy bright colors as much as I do then Tape Jungle has fluorescent gaffers tape with the correct polyethylene impregnation unlike anything I can find on Amazon.

I like the strength, rigidity, and lack of gross build-up of gaffer's tape, but it's way too expensive for me to use as a general-purpose duct-tape-replacement. how's the wiring harness tape compare? I'm also considering "book repair tape" as a slightly lower cost but probably decent alternative, and i'm not expecting much but am also curious about hockey stick tape. any hockey players here wanna comment on how the adhesive ages?

I also want to know this! Does hockey tape hold in place at 100F?

I'm interested in the vibration damping technique you showed. But I tried googling it but found basically nothing except in the context of drums. Is there any resource you can recommend that's reasonably accessible to a layman? Or even if it's not, that still might be better than nothing.
@davidmalawey6 сағат бұрын
I don't know a resource, but if you start searching Audio installations in cars - I bet there are some writeups or whitepapers. Both OEMs and aftermarket setups apply tapes to the steel panels for deadening of the panels where speakers are located. Please share if you find something good! Keywords perhaps acoustic, resonance, deadening, or soundproofing.
@markjohnson4295 сағат бұрын
Yes I saw write ups on sound deadening tapes but what I found interesting was attaching weights to resonant panel. That's where I'm finding a dearth of information. Anyway thanks for responding!

You really didn't need to put the wires on first so it really wouldn't matter what insulation it is because you wouldn't have to bake it with the wires installed.

Kapton is Polyimide (and a DuPont brand name) The red stuff is Polyester, and also commonly available in transparent green, and opaque blue and yellow, among other colors. It's also often used on transformer cores to insulate the winding layers, and with resin mold making/vacuum bagging, because the resin doesn't adhere to it.

I use epoxy. It also shields from rf a small bit wich helps for sensors. Especially if you use metal powder in the epoxy. You can also just glaze with epozybto waterproof it

Huh, I just finished the video and noticed you didn't talk at all about PET tape. It's almost as heat resistant as Kaplon tape, but it's green, very thick, very stiff, and even though I bought a roll out of curiosity a year ago, I still haven't figured out when to use it yet! I've heard some people with 3D printers use it instead of Kaplon, but I have no idea why. Any thoughts?
@davidmalawey6 сағат бұрын
Printer hobbyists seem to have two opposing goals: the liquid plastic sticks to the base layer but the finished part can be removed easily. They also might be looking for a specific surface finish. Or lastly, I think the green stuff comes in very wide rolls and may be more affordable.
@SkippiiKaiКүн бұрын
One correction: you said the thick double-sided super tacky tape is very expensive. I've been buying rolls of them for less than 10 cents a roll for the last two years from whichever asian invasive predatory dumping company you choose. It's about the cheapest tape you can buy for its strength, and I use it all the time. And while you could probably mount a TV to a wall with it, it's actually pretty easy to remove if you pull it *really* slowly. Like, much slower than you think. Also, they claim it's reusable if you wash it with water. I've never really tested that because, well, why would I at 9 cents per roll? But if you've got the tape on one object, and you tried to stick it to a very dust covered wall, then theoretically, if you believe them, you could clean the wall and rinse off the tape and reapply.
@davidmalawey5 сағат бұрын
That's super good info - are you talking about distributors like Temu? I'd like to find a cheap option like you mentioned! And yes I found the water rinse can often work.

when i diassemble something small, like smartphone I always put those very small crews on a transparent tape (like usual packing tape). I can group then on a tape and can be sure no one will be missing. If I have to wait say delivery of spare part I cover them with other tape.

Mass Loaded Vinyl tape is used for vibration and sound reduction. One time I went to tear some gaffer tape and it was glass fiber reinforced! I nearly cut myself trying to tear it. Also gaffer tape can react with PVC jacketed cables in a few months. It turns into a gooey mess. I worked in broadcast/video maintenance and have spent hours cleaning it off of expensive camera cables.
