How do you clean out the side pens if your central alley way is elevated? Is there an access point on the other end that you didn't film? Curious to know. i like your set up and i'm looking at financing a project like this at around the size of a 40' x 100'.
@valleyridgefarms5 ай бұрын
Yea, maybe i didn't show it well in the video, but there are actually two tarp doors on each end on either side of the centre doors that open up for the tractor to get in and out.

For a young person that wants to get into farming, would sheep be a good choice to make money?
@valleyridgefarms7 ай бұрын
You won't get rich that's for sure. But in my opinion it is the easiest agricultural industry to get into by far with the best return on investment. For any first generation farmer it will always be a struggle to make a good living farming...that's why you gotta love it enough to do it...😃

Rule of thumb to make it in farming is to be above average in production and below average in your cost of production...

Our goal is 3 per ewe per year, about 2- 2.5 lambs per lambing per ewe. Squ ft for a ewe with lambs is about 25, without lambs 18-20.

Hi! I am expecting lambs within the next 3 weeks or so but they don't look like their carrying lambs. We have 5 ewes and are a small, family-run farm, for homesteading and raising our own meat. I have never done this before and want to know if there are any certain vaccines or injections they should for sure have? Also, can simple supplies like bands for docking the tails be bought at tractor supplies and co. op. stores?
@valleyridgefarms8 ай бұрын
Hey there, yea, most coops or tractor supply places should have supplies, not sure where you live but they do out here. Ideally they would get vaccinated with a vaccine that covers some of the common issues found with sheep. We use glanvac 6...

It's a waterline from my barn hooked up to a float valve on a tote. In the late fall, disconnect the hoses to get the water pressure off so they don't get ruined by the freezing temperatures...

How did you structure the large doors? We have a large hoop barn we are updating and are not happy with the current door set up (tarp doors on a hand winch). We just replaced all the tarping at ~$40000 (65x140) installed.

Not sure what you mean by structure of the doors... We have three on each end, 2 which are tarp doors. Don't like tarp doors especially on the wind side of the barn.

Just wondering why you put your bales in the straw spreader that way rather than on the round?
@valleyridgefarms Жыл бұрын
Depends on the straw, sometimes the beaters would kick the bale and it keeps rolling away when trying to push it through. If straw breaks apart easily then you could put it the other way....
