Were you using a phone and a tripod for recording? If yes, what brand tripod was it. I see that you follow the dog and handler with the camera so was wondering if it is some type of swivel mount? I would like to record a run with a phone and I'm just not sure what type of tripod I should get.

Hot tip: feed with your other hand! Pick up and say marker word, then deliver in 3 steps! This will increase clarity. Love this game SOO much and I love your demo
@Snowbearkay Жыл бұрын
how do you play this game with a 5 month old puppy that's really mouthy?
@sarahneal1090 Жыл бұрын
Wait with your hand closed. If they start barking, turn away. Ignore all behaviors until you get some backing off. Then open your hand and wait a second. Then mark and reward quickly.

Do you only have to do one course for novice title
@The.Common.K9 Жыл бұрын
No. You need two Q scores.
@AVM81 Жыл бұрын
I think it is 3 legs, each time you get a qualifying score, you get a leg and need all three to achieve the title.
@1packatak24 күн бұрын
@@AVM81. correct. All rally and obedience levels in AKC require 3 qualifying scores for a title

Conflicting messages from dog trainers. Some say don't get them to do anything else when they come.

Why "good come"? Sounds like diluting the cue.

If you saw the date, this is from 2016. It was quite popular at the time to "reinforce" the behavior with the word. I no longer do this, but the rest of the video is still applicable and good material.

I really like that you included the part where he actually did take the cheese when he wasn't supposed to. Sometimes it feels like every time your dog does something wrong you're failing but it's really encouraging to actually see a trainer not even acknowledge that as a failure and just move forward and see the dog still be able to do the command the next time. I struggle with getting frustrated when the command doesn't happen perfectly every single time in our training but I'm starting to see that's unrealistic, even though almost no trainer has ever encouraged me that it's okay to fail. Love your vids.

what do you think about age here? you say puppy... What age is IYC working best for the first time?
@tailoreddogtraining29115 жыл бұрын
Depends on the dog and breed. For most puppies, they can handle IYC at 12 weeks.

My puppy literally yelps,struggles and bites when I grab her collar.I got her at 6 weeks old and she never had a collar before I got her.She wears one ok just panics when it's grabbed or runs away if she thinks you're going to pick her up.She is also sensitive to being touched and petted on the torso and back but ok with being touched and petted elsewhere.What can I do to help her?

There are tons of dog training videos online, but yours are my favorite that I've found! I wish my dog Gracie and I could work with you in person (we live in GA), but I'm so grateful you made these freely available. Thanks!!

This is a great video- thank you. I trained my puppy to go to his mat, but was at a loss on how to get him to stay there. I'll try these training tips. What would be a reasonable amount of time to expect a 4 month old to stay on a mat? I'd love to get the duration of a meal in.
@tailoreddogtraining29117 жыл бұрын
So glad you found it helpful! For duration for a 4 month old: depends on the breed and personality. I have had some 4 month old mellow Golden Retrievers be able to stay about 10 mins solid with intermittent rewards but a bouncy terrier mix the same age may only be able to do so for 3 mins. Some owners will give the dog a chew and tether near the mat to teach them the "idea" of the behavior during human mealtimes. It is certainly helpful, but doesn't take the place of doing the mat work training and extending duration.
@dianaa41497 жыл бұрын
Ahh.. I think I may need to lower my expectations a bit. I have a 4 month old Golden Retreiver, but not so mellow! Perhaps we will aim for five minutes with rewards every minute!
