The clockwise exactness in movements together with elegance is the name of Franco Formica...this is 2010 where Slavik faced an early retirement...Franco himself retired 2-3 yrs later...Oxana however invited a new leader thereafter and still active in the Backpool as the finalists....

@gingermist21: IMO Slavik "was" the best male Latin dancer in the world but he is too much about himself and therefore difficult with his partners. If ballroom was individual dancing he would be the outright champion, it's not. It's two people dancing as a unit and in Latin the woman is the picture/focus and the man the frame, Slavik want both or at least be the focus. Karina was able to dampen his selfishness and was the best for him. BTW Anna is beautiful and this a beautiful rumba.

Yes, last year they did an interview at Millennium after their shows and the attitude of him and her where not compatible at all. She was frustrated and annoyed and Slavik was being well, Slavik. Making comments like "If you (Anna) last another year", and when asked what's it like dancing with Slavik to Anna he said "I'm so terrible ask Karina Smirnoff she'll tell you". Anna just was quiet and polite. She's probably glad to be married and retired from competing.

I agree that Slavik is the most technically sound dancer forgiving that he tends to dance above the ground, but the partner connection is not up to par. Just want to add Yulia's technique is well simply amazing.

@dancerromancer i don't know if they broke up or not, it looks like they did judging from their body language towards each other when they're not dancing..but those are just speculations, I am hoping it is all good between them

@dragonlung730 Or maybe they just broke up in their personal relationship but as any other professional couple will stay together just to compete and do shows.

@HM8290 I agree with you. But I also think that Slavik is the most technically advanced dancer with superb basics, phenomenal feetwork and body actions. IMHO the 2nd is Franco and Riccardo is the 3rd. And I start to think that Anna is becoming a better suited partner to Slavik than it was Karina. I truly hope in the following year we will witness S&A reveal their full potential. Even now they look great but I just would like them to further develop their routines, especially samba and cha cha.

DanceAffectionist I always found Slavik to be overrated, a very good dancer no doubt but for me very disjointed & stop-start in his movements, just not flowing enough. Plus he never danced as 'one' with his partners as it was more about 'him' rather than a true connection as a couple. That's why Riccardo & Yulia are so amazing, they compliment each other beautifully, Riccardo's masculinity to Yulia's femininity & their chemistry, artistry, musicality, rhythm, technique & precision is perfection. And the reason why they're the current 7 time Latin World Champions!

@HM8290 You make it sound as if I don't like Slavik and Anna! My comment about other Rumbas with the posing was not directed to them. I do believe that Slavik & Anna will become more balanced in time -- in fact, they already are getting there, I can't wait for the time that I can watch them and truly appreciate Anna for the amazing dancer that she is!

@DanceAffectionist I would rather watch their routine which actually has some content in it, than other Rumbas which just seem to be posing and pulling faces. I also think that Riccardo is the perfect sort of partner to have -- I sometimes find Slavik tries too hard to take the attention away from his lady -- Riccardo presents Yulia perfectly.

My thinking of professionalism applies more to show programmes of R&Y. I believe this is where all the talent, professionalsim, charisma, etc. shows at its best. In this respect Slavik is the best: with every partner he is able to interpret the dance in truly artistic and ingeniuous way. However, on the competitive dancefloor R&Y couple really shines and still surpass Slavik and Anna. But R&Y lack their own "dance signature" as a couple, maybe this is why they loose to Michael and Joanna.

Ok, variation at 1:27 is impressive. But they are not so proffessional and harmonious that one would expect from the 2nd best couple of the present dance world. Firstly, the routine is overcrowded: it looks messy, some moves are meaningless - seems like done just for the sake of doing. True professionalism is about quality, not quantity (or the correct balance between these). Secondly, Riccardo lacks charisma and individuality: his technique is superb but he is kind of boring as a dancer.
