Another way to get a different "drag" speed is to maybe add a "Memory Lock" (we have two sided tightening models) so it changes the weight of the stick (aka speed). Come work at the Farmer FootDrum shop!

I figured out my inexpensive alternative. A hand shaker, with a steel rod (from old bass drum beater) through it, set up so it goes from horizontal to down when I move the pedal. Have it hit a foam rubber block, or even Ann old pair of jeans torn up and filled into one of the legs with ends tied off.

Absolutely amazing! I had no idea that pre-countersunk magnets like that existed! And the bayonet mount sounds like the right idea: camera lenses do the same thing. I'll be taking some sticks to the hardware store this weekend to find the right PVC: ultimately it's the inner diameter I care about. My goal is to play rolls on a pedal-mounted snare using a double bass pedal; there's not a lot of choice in tip or stick weight out there.

Getting 16th notes on the hi-hat was a huge goal for me from when I first got the kit. I may have removed the early vids. The snare drag went through a lot variations. Pete ended up developing those two features on the new models but implemented them differently.

Sorry if this comment gets kind of long, but I must say This is pretty cool. Nice that I found this video, because I have an idea of doing something a little bit similar. I just typed into KZbin "foot-controlled electronic drum triggers for one-man band" or something like that and this came up. My idea is that I'm going to play piano keyboard while playing drum sounds with my feet, using standard electronic kick drum pedals going into a drum module (like the one in this video for example, though it could be any other drum module as well). I should mention that I'm looking into using kick drum pedals that are "beater-less", I.E there's no actual beater hitting an external bass drum pad which would sit on the floor. The main advantage is that this will be less bulky and therefore more portable than having actual kick drum pads which can get pretty heavy. Then, the idea is to build some kind of structure/frame to mount those kick drum pedals onto, such that I can carry the whole pedal setup as one unit instead of carrying all those pedals individually. I'm trying to figure out which "beater-less" kick drum pedals to buy though. I'd like for them to be velocity sensitive as well, that way I can control dynamics. If you or anyone else has any suggestions for pedals that fit what I'm after, feel free to reply and let me know. I can also try finding options on Amazon or whatever as well. Oh, and another important note before I forget: I'm not at all interested in just playing a single bass drum or a bass drum and snare drum or something like that while playing piano; I want to have it sound like a full-blown drum kit with bass drum, snare drum, hi-hats, cymbals and so on. For an example of what's possible, check out a guy called Jordan B. Wilson, also known as "The Lone Sound Ranger". Only difference here is that Jordan's "foot drums" are acoustic, whereas mine are gonna be entirely electronic, like the ones shown in this video.
@JustOneGuyMusic Жыл бұрын
I've come across some guys doing all triggers in really cool ways. I know Jordan (LSR). He's an awesome, creative talent, and was a huge inspiration when I first started. When I get a chance I'll track down some links and send your way. Check out early youtube vids from One Lad Band aka Barry Carroll. He was all foot triggers but later moved to the Farmer Footdrum. Super cool guy and I'm sure could share some great insights on triggers.
@justinnaramor6050 Жыл бұрын
@@JustOneGuyMusic Hey, thanks for your reply! I suppose it might also be a good idea to explain my foot-drumming pedal layout; I already have it figured out in my mind. That way you can get a better idea of what I'm really going for here. Anyways, the pedal layout is as follows: Right heel pedal: bass drum. Further right heel pedal: snare drum. The toes/ball of the right foot will control the sustain pedal on the piano. Left heel pedal: another bass drum pedal. Further left heel pedal: another snare drum pedal. Left toe pedal (above the left heel bass drum pedal): closed hi-hat. Further left toe pedal (above left heel snare drum pedal): crash cymbal. An even further left toe pedal: open hi-hat. Final left toe pedal: ride cymbal. That's just the basic foot drum kit. I also had an idea for an "extreme foot drumming" setup, which I could use for extreme music styles like death metal: rather than having one bass drum pedal and snare drum pedal for each heel, I would have 2 of them. They would be set up in stacked pares, such that one heel could get 2 bass drum strikes or 2 snare drum strikes with a single downward motion of the heel. Then I would alternate between either of the stacked pares of pedals for fast snare drum rolls or super-fast double kicks without wasting much energy from my feet. The rest of the pedal layout would be exactly the same as the "simpler" layout I presented at the beginning. Yeah, I know. This sounds totally insane. But that's precisely the point! :)))

Check out this guy's channel. One of the best I've seen using drum triggers... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqKpo6eLqN6BnZY
@justinnaramor6050 Жыл бұрын
@@JustOneGuyMusic Yeah, I've seen that guy recently. Steackmike is another one of my favorite one-man bands. That Michael Jackson cover of his that you linked wasn't the first one I saw from him though; it was actually his cover of "Jump" by Van Halen. Both are good though! I saw the Michael Jackson one later on. I don't think he's actually using "drum triggers" though, necessarily. He's using an electronic pedal keyboard (like the kind of pedals you'd see on an organ) to play the drums. When I think of "drum triggers" I usually think of a piezoelectric sensor used as an input for a drum module, as used with acoustic drums or ordinary electronic drum pads. A pedal keyboard on the other hand is just a set of keys with switches under them; this is entirely different from a piezo sensor.
@JustOneGuyMusic Жыл бұрын
Piezo is definitely the most ideal. Although what I'm using now in this video are momentary switches with no dynamics, I originally made various versions using piezo triggers. I was unable to overcome the crosstalk and misfire issues with this particular configuration. I found sacrificing the dynamics for toms was acceptable for my tastes. I'm still using piezo for kick and snare to preserve the dynamics without any issues. If it's not already in your plans I highly recommend exploring the use of DB25 interface or Cat5 wiring so you can have one (maybe two) cables between your pedal board and drum module. I had a mess of cables until I figured this out. I look forward to seeing/hearing your rig and how things develop.

Personally, I think for an everyday sound you would want something that sounds pretty authentic like it could actually be produced by the drum. the beech and the vintage 50's fit that aesthetic to my ears. Although, Electro 3 and break 1 would be cool for a nice organic electro sound.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm using two TC-Helicon PlayElectric units which provide the guitar sound and vocal harmonies based on the guitar input. I use one for main (no harmony) vocal and the guitar's piezo pickup. The second TC unit uses the guitar's humbucker pickup (A Little Thunder) and I have the TC set for harmonies always on. My feet were too busy to switch harmonies on/off with one mic so I went with this 2-mic setup.
