It was a good idea . . . but You really needed a tripod or a much steadier hand.

So good hearing these hydros, I grew up around them as my dad built and raced them in the 50's and 60's. Such a pity about the video quality, I accept it is what it is. Thanks for bringing these back.

Great content but I can't watch it without getting dizzy. :) There's probably an image stabilizer in the creator tools somewhere.

I remember a race in the UK of these types of boats. The funny thing was that in the lunch break there was a demonstration of 'scuba diving'. Yep, nothing to see here folks.

I remember actually seeing Miss Bardahl in Wisconsin when I was a kid. I wish I could remember exactly where. She may have been there on display for the racing fans, as I don't remember her racing. That was a hell of a long time ago.

My father, Del Gould, was the crew chief, and Allison engine master rebuilder (licensed aircraft technician), of Miss Bardahl in 58 when it won the championship. Prior to that, he was the crew chief when Shanty 1 won the championship in 56, also of Maverick and Miss Wahoo. And prior to that, he built the engines for the Slo-Mos. Still have many mementos. I went to many races, and helped my father with some of the work, originally spending some time in the Anchor Jensen boathouse on Lake Union. He left the sport in 60 after Ole Bardahl didn't want to spend the money for my father's dream of a more reliable higher powered twin turbocharged Allison engine, set up with the help of Mickey Thompson assistance and products. And, then when my father left, Ole Bardahl kept my father's personal tools. Not nice. He was an expert in balancing the hydros, and the well known picture of Miss Wahoo flying smoothly through the air perfectly horizontal was an example of his skill in understanding the aerodynamics of the boats. In years to come, drivers tended to want the CG back further than what he considered safe, and that ended up killing drivers , esp in 1966 in the President's cup when three were killed. Sad times. My father could never watch another race. I can remember similar boats in this class racing, as a lil kid in 1978-1981 when my dad was in charge of outboard racing at OMC Johnson Evinrude with driver Terry Leatherby. Outboards seemed so slow after watching these monsters
