Can you use this taping technique if you can't bend your index finger? That is, the DIP joint.

Hey 😊 I understand the part where you make the X with the tape on the inside of the joint (on your pinky) in order to slightly restrict bending and thus provide extra support, but I'm not sure I understand the part where you make the X with the tape on the side of the joint (ring and middle fingers). How does that help? Does it prevent sideways traumatic bending of the joints? Because that's the most frequent way I hurt my fingers. Thanks for your help and congratulations on making this video. Even if it's been a long time it's very well done.

Event hough this video was posted 12 years ago, it's still one of the best taping videos for grappling. Most only focus on finger taping, but the toes are in some ways even more vulnerable. I broke my little toe on my first day with BJJ, and have been using this taping technique ever since.

I'd like to see it performed from standing. I'm trying to work through a series of drills and these are giving me trouble. The "slaps" are easy to do when you're already in position, but I always seem to have my balance/momentum thrown off when my body hits the ground.

You do not "jump up". Your hips need to go down immediately. If they go up at all, your opponent has time to get under you.

A lot of comments missed the joke. Watch the Gracie vs karate videos from the 1970s. Todd Tanaka (Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) and George Kotaka (world karate champion) share training space in Waikiki, and there is cross training going on with some students. When I was a Relson student in the late 1990s, I watched girls who trained under George compete at karate tournaments, and they rocked! In the description the video is plainly described as a PARODY. Enjoy the joke. Have a great day.

Hi Friend, I know that a lot of you struggle with finger injuries like I do. I've designed thin sports tape specifically for BJJ practitioners' fingers to make it easier to protect your digits and I just launched the site! Use the promo code "love4redditors" to get a dollar off on all orders! www.tapeyourfingers.com -- copied from a reddit thread

Don't be offended, please. But... There is a reason why black belts should be the only ones to show moves. Totally inafective. This would never work against a proficient leg dragger. Sorry.

The speaker using exact words of Rorion Gracie's previous videos. Mocking him obviously. Horrible example, this guy is NOT a bjj fighter, if he were he would have ended that match in 8 seconds, give or take. I assume anyone with half a brain knows this though. This video shows and proves nothing.
