It was the old extractor hood. Not sure why they used it it’s a grease trap.

Well, UK is wrong. The Colors should be Green or Copper for Ground, Black for Hot and White for Neutral and Red as the Traveler.

Brown, grey & black are live or hot, blue is neutral and green and yellow is the earth or cpc.

Pointless considering most majority of houses in the uk are 40 years pluss not that many new builds and the change was because the youngsters to thick to work with old wiring

Circuits had been doubled and quadrupled up and some thermal overload signs as well. You could smell it when I took the cover off.

Nowt wrong with circuits doubled up if done properly, smell of overload suggests incorrect breakers or faulty then.

I have the STAT500015, when within I have a black, grey & brown cable, where would these go as the current setup isn’t calling for hot water

You’ll need to to check the connections in the joint box. I take it that’s it’s a three port valve. If it is brown normally common the other two could be either of two choices call or satisfied if it’s a three port. I need a bit more information. Do you have one valve or two?

You do t have to drain the system down, this fits into the probe holes in the side of the tank. There’s just a couple of screws on the stat that just need to be nipped screw to secure it.
