@@paulmobleyscience I searched “St Louis radioactive” then filtered by upload date, honestly! That’s what brought me here. I search that every so often, because it’s like nobody talks about it. The people that want to talk about it aren’t taken seriously; the people who take it seriously don’t want to talk about it… It’s hard to find meaningful content about the issue. You’d think there would be more citizen-scientists and local chem / envi sci college students who would be out here collecting data and interpreting it. I’ve been looking to buy my first radiometer/counter to explore my area, as well as known sites for reference and verification purposes. I’m glad that I’m not alone. The peak you see at around 80 keV could be X-ray fluorescence from the lead in the shield. This line appears whenever we measure something inside a lead shield. The background gamma radiation also ionizes and excites the lead in the shield, which then emits fluorescence X-rays. Part of this radiation is also detected by the device.
@paulmobleyscience2 ай бұрын
@PedroGomes1974 Absolutely, That's how you can identify unknown metallic materials that become ionized as a result of a radioactive source that's behind a lead shield from the detector but not the sample

Where was this sampled at??
@paulmobleyscience2 ай бұрын
@neurologicalworms From an air conditioning filter in a 20th floor high rise building about 300 yards from Tokyo tower....downtown Tokyo. Hope this helps. Dr Kaltofen found a hot particle 460Km from Fukushima that had a radioactivity of 40,000,000,000,000,000,000 becquerals per kilogram (100 Bq/Kg safe levels) and made up of 80% core material. They didn't evacuate people for enough away and the inverse square law does not apply to an aggregate of point sources. Hope this helps

@Dudeguymansir2 ай бұрын
I appreciate you taking the time to do this and share it also! Definitely am curious what the longer measurements show. It would also be interesting to take measurements in locations adjacent to the creek. This looks like you’re actually on the creek, which I imagine washes out pretty readily. Areas a little farther from the creek itself (perhaps even up to a mile away) are impacted by flooding and surface waters during downpours. They’re far enough away to not be washed out immediately, like on the creek itself. I bet if you took some soil samples from different points along the creek, at a few different distances from the creek’s path, at 6”, 1 foot, and 2 foot depths, you’d turn up a few hot samples!
@paulmobleyscience2 ай бұрын
You're most welcome sir... I take my samples using a tbar core that goes down 12 inches from the surface. The issue I see is that FUSRAP has already remediated most of these areas meaning it's been dug out and then material placed on top of the area as this is standard civil engineering practice so if contamination still exists, it's much deeper than anyone can measure from the surface area. I still have a sample I have to take a long measurement of from around Latty Avenue and Coldwater Creek area where Dr Kaltofen did his study and he only had to go down 20 cm to find it, hence the 12 inch tbar core. Thank you for commenting as it helps people realise there are others interested in this work I'm doing. I have since left the area and back home now gathering funds to take another journey just like this into other areas to get answers for people.

Thank you, Paul; it is good to know the areas you walked have normal background levels. The dry pond is one of the areas where the conservation department dammed up a soybean field to create a shallow waterfowl habitat. I was sort of angry when they created around 1983 it because that was an arrowhead hunting spot (gone forever), but I know the ducks and geese need it. Odd to see it dry. What would be interesting is to see if Schotte Creek has higher levels once it leaves the Lake, like testing the other side of the highway or down at the park where it enters the Dardenne. Hey, I am almost done with a fiction story about a hidden batch of coldwater creek drums in the Lake 33 area, and every time I watch your videos, I think, "Oh dang, this person has to be a character in the book." The "Luke, I am your father" scene was priceless! Maybe the next book

What a shame the arrowhead spot is gone now, sorry to hear that. If you search through my videos you will indeed find those areas you suggested and was some of the very first areas I searched including the sport fields that are downstream and in between both Schote and Dardenne creeks. You'll find I walked the entire area of note from the Missouri river, every square foot of the actual Weldon Spring Quarry, Hamburg trail and Hamburg quarry, lost valley trail, Clark trail, around the disposal area, Francis Howell High School, Busch conservation area, lake 10 and more. Take a peek

As far as the surface area goes yes but we do in fact know that the uranium levels in the Femme-Osage haven't decreased and are above background levels so there must still be contamination underground. The issue then becomes contamination in the ground water, and thus, people's drinking water.

Actually no sign of a underground smoldering event and didn't even really smell the bad smell everyone talks about here. Thank you sir...This is the typical preparation for food and yes it's the same detector. The only radionuclide this device can measure in food or water is Cesium specifically only. I have really no interest in checking food in the field nor do I have a home to have a laboratory setup that's needed for this type of sample preparation. I would just hot ash a sample rather than chemical ash if I was going to measure for cesium specifically in food. I am strictly checking soil samples and as long as the hydrogen is evaporated enough then it shouldn't be attenuated. I'm also putting my samples and detector inside a wooden box with lead lining the outside so it helps clean up the spectrum. If I find something of interest I'll just half the sample until I've separated the sample down to one or a few grams I can weigh on my scale. Although I would lose some radioactivity by hot ashing it, that's the way I would prepare a food sample in my situation
